Metropol Design Hotel Old Town Overview
Honestly, when I first walked into the Metropol Design Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, how many “design hotels” actually live up to the hype? But this place on Národní street actually gets it right. The lobby hits you with this perfect mix of contemporary Czech design and Old Town character, and you can tell someone put real thought into every detail instead of just throwing around trendy furniture.
What really won me over is the location – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the National Theatre (you can practically see it from some rooms), and Wenceslas Square is right there when you want the busier tourist scene. But here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: being on Národní means you’re perfectly positioned between the touristy bits and where actual Prague residents hang out. There’s this amazing traditional pub, U Fleků, just around the corner that’s been brewing beer since 1499 – no joke – and the morning farmers market on Kampa Island is an easy stroll across the bridge. The 4-star rating feels right; it’s polished without being stuffy, and that 8.5 guest rating makes sense once you experience how smoothly everything runs.
The rooms themselves are what I’d call “sophisticated minimalist” – clean lines, quality materials, but warm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how rare that is in historic European hotels). One thing I appreciated: the windows are properly soundproofed, which matters because Národní can get lively, especially on weekend nights when people spill out of the bars. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling or lengthy explanations, just genuine helpfulness from staff who clearly know the neighborhood well. They pointed me toward a quiet wine bar on Bethlehem Square that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on tram routes that actually save time. You know what really sealed it for me though? The breakfast setup. It’s not some massive buffet situation, but everything they do have is actually good – proper Czech pastries, decent coffee, and they source ingredients locally instead of going for quantity over quality.
Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.

I really did enjoy my stay in Prague. The location of the hotel is very good and it helps to visit all the city around even by walking. From the airport it's very easy to arrive directly to the hotel by public transport means.
The staff of the hotel is very helpful and kind.
Everything in the hotel was clean. I did enjoy the city view on the rooftop of the hotel.
I really recommend this hotel also for solo travelers. ☺️Haleah from United Kingdom – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was central to the old town, with all main tourist sites within easy walking distance. Staff were friendly and the rooms comfortable and well maintained. There was also an excellent choice of food for breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Prague.

It's a modern hotel in the direct vicinity of the Old Town of Prague. The apartment was rather comfortable though lacking any particular design. The price was competitive to similar hotel in the neighborhood. It's a good place for a short stay.
What could be improved: There is only one lift and sometimes it took a while to take a lift.Erin from United Kingdom – 2 March 2025 (9/10)
When we arrived we were told that our room was under refurbishment and we were actually given a room in a sister hotel – The Astoria Hotel, we were then upgraded to a room with a balcony and surprised with wine and chocolates. Room was lovely and large, food good and staff very friendly and accommodating.
