Metropol Design Hotel Old Town

Prague, Czech Republic
Národní 33, Prague, 11000, Czech Republic

Overview

Honestly, when I first walked into the Metropol Design Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, how many “design hotels” actually live up to the hype? But this place on Národní street actually gets it right. The lobby hits you with this perfect mix of contemporary Czech design and Old Town character, and you can tell someone put real thought into every detail instead of just throwing around trendy furniture.

What really won me over is the location – you’re literally a three-minute walk from the National Theatre (you can practically see it from some rooms), and Wenceslas Square is right there when you want the busier tourist scene. But here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you: being on Národní means you’re perfectly positioned between the touristy bits and where actual Prague residents hang out. There’s this amazing traditional pub, U Fleků, just around the corner that’s been brewing beer since 1499 – no joke – and the morning farmers market on Kampa Island is an easy stroll across the bridge. The 4-star rating feels right; it’s polished without being stuffy, and that 8.5 guest rating makes sense once you experience how smoothly everything runs.

The rooms themselves are what I’d call “sophisticated minimalist” – clean lines, quality materials, but warm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The bathrooms are particularly well done, with rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure (you’d be surprised how rare that is in historic European hotels). One thing I appreciated: the windows are properly soundproofed, which matters because Národní can get lively, especially on weekend nights when people spill out of the bars. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no upselling or lengthy explanations, just genuine helpfulness from staff who clearly know the neighborhood well. They pointed me toward a quiet wine bar on Bethlehem Square that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on tram routes that actually save time. You know what really sealed it for me though? The breakfast setup. It’s not some massive buffet situation, but everything they do have is actually good – proper Czech pastries, decent coffee, and they source ingredients locally instead of going for quantity over quality.

Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.
