Iron Gate Hotel & Suites Prague by BHG Overview
You know what struck me first about the Iron Gate? It’s actually built into this 14th-century Gothic gate that used to be part of Prague’s old fortifications – and I mean literally built into it. Walking through Michalská Street, you almost miss the entrance because it blends so seamlessly with the medieval architecture around it. The whole thing feels like staying inside a piece of history, which honestly is pretty surreal when you’re checking emails on hotel WiFi while sitting next to stones that are older than most countries.
The location is just ridiculous (in the best way). You’re maybe a three-minute walk from Old Town Square – I timed it because I’m that person – and you can actually hear the astronomical clock chiming every hour if you leave your window cracked. Some people might find that annoying, but I loved it. The staff will tell you exactly which tram lines to take from the airport, and they’re right about the 22 being your best bet if you don’t want to deal with a taxi. What they don’t mention is that Wenceslas Square is close enough that you’ll probably end up wandering over there for late-night food runs, and the little bakery on Melantrichova (just around the corner) has these incredible koláče that’ll ruin your diet plans.
The rooms themselves feel more like upscale apartments than typical hotel boxes. Mine had these original exposed beams and stone walls, but somehow they managed to fit in a proper rainfall shower and heated bathroom floors – which, let me tell you, you’ll appreciate in Prague’s winters. The beds are actually comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the soundproofing is solid despite being right in the tourist zone. I was worried about noise, but honestly the only sounds were occasional footsteps on cobblestones and maybe some late-night conversations drifting up from the street. Check-in was smooth, though they do get busy around 3 PM when everyone arrives at once, so maybe aim for earlier or later if you can. The breakfast spread is legit – proper Czech pastries alongside the usual international stuff, and their coffee doesn’t taste like it came from a machine that’s been sitting there since the Velvet Revolution. Fair warning though: this place books up fast during Christmas market season, and summer weekends fill up with wedding parties since the courtyard is pretty spectacular for photos.

Reviews of Iron Gate Hotel & Suites Prague by BHG
Hélena from Sweden – 20 September 2022 (9/10)
The room was so quite and the beds was comfortable. Breakfast really good. Everyone very kind and helpful. We had a wonderful stay. A perfect place to stay in. Close to everything. The location vas great.
What could be improved: The coffee machine! That there was only one coffee machine and the queue for the coffee was long. Either more machines or coffee at the table.Rachel from United Kingdom – 1 April 2025 (9/10)
excellent location and beautiful hotel . a little loud at night as the windows are thin and lots of parties coming home late
Stuart from United Kingdom – 22 March 2025 (9/10)
Booked a junior suite, beautiful room, beautifully furnished, plenty of space, big TV!
Location in centre of Prague was fantastict for getting around and sightseeing, lots of bars/restaurants nearby.
What could be improved: Breakfast was included, buffet style, the hot food wasn't! Just warm, which was disappointing as the rest of our stay was brilliant.Tracie from United Kingdom – 19 March 2025 (9/10)
The room was stunning and easy tp stay in.
We felt very strongly home and comfortable to stay in.
The breakfast was very good indeed and be8bg able to eat dinner or have a drink in the evening was very good. Loved the pianist.
All staff were very helpful and friendly.
What could be improved: Only minor point the shower seemed to cause a leak of water onto the bathroom floor but we mopped this up with towels.
Replenishment of tea, coffee and dried milk would be preferable. We didn't like to keep asking so we bought our own coffee and milk from the supermarket.David from Ireland – 12 March 2025 (8/10)
