So you know that stretch of Wenceslas Square where all the tourist traps cluster together? Well, the Elysee sits right in the thick of it at number 43, but honestly – and this surprised me – it doesn’t feel like one of those soulless chain places that usually camp out in prime real estate like this. I mean, you’re literally steps from the National Museum (that massive building you can’t miss), and the whole old town is basically a ten-minute stroll away, but somehow this four-star manages to feel more… I don’t know, authentic than you’d expect.

The thing about staying right on Václavské náměstí is that you’re going to hear some street noise, especially on weekend nights when the locals are out bar-hopping, but the Elysee’s rooms are actually pretty well soundproofed. I stayed on the fourth floor facing the square and could barely hear the trams rumbling by – which, trust me, is saying something because those things aren’t exactly whisper-quiet. The lobby has this old-world Prague vibe without being too over-the-top about it, you know? Dark wood, decent lighting, staff who actually seem to know the neighborhood instead of just reading from scripts. Check-in was smooth, maybe five minutes tops, and the front desk guy gave me genuinely useful tips about which nearby restaurants weren’t complete tourist traps (go to Lokal if you want proper Czech food without the inflated prices).

What really won me over, though, was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The shower had proper water pressure – I’m talking about the kind where you don’t have to do that awkward dance trying to rinse shampoo out of your hair. The wifi worked everywhere, even in the elevator, and the breakfast spread was solid without being fancy just for the sake of it. You’ll find proper Czech pastries alongside the usual international stuff, and the coffee was… well, it was hotel coffee, but drinkable hotel coffee. The rooms themselves feel genuinely comfortable rather than just Instagram-pretty, with enough space to actually unpack if you’re staying more than a night or two. Plus – and this might sound minor but it’s not – the curtains actually block out light, which is clutch when you’re dealing with jet lag and those super bright European summer mornings. The location really is the star here though. You can walk to the astronomical clock in Old Town Square, hit up the shopping on Na Příkopě, or catch the metro anywhere you need to go, all without feeling like you’re schlepping across the city. It’s the kind of place where the 8.4 rating makes total sense – not perfect, but genuinely good at what it does.
