Overview

You know what struck me first about the Clarion Hotel Prague City? It’s actually positioned perfectly on Tylovo náměstí – and I mean that in the best way possible. Most tourists rush straight to Old Town Square, but this little square puts you right in Vinohrady, which honestly feels more like where actual Praguers live and work. You’re maybe a 10-minute tram ride from the castle, but you can also just walk down to Wenceslas Square without breaking a sweat.

The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense vibe that works well for a 4-star place. Check-in was smooth (the desk staff actually spoke great English, which – let’s be real – isn’t always a given), and the lobby has this comfortable, lived-in feeling without being fancy or trying too hard. I stayed on the fourth floor, and here’s something I appreciated: the windows actually block out street noise pretty well. Tylovo náměstí isn’t exactly a party zone, but there’s still city life happening below, and I slept fine. The room was bigger than I expected – you can actually open your suitcase without having to climb over it, which is saying something for European hotels. The bathroom was modern enough, good water pressure, though the shower is one of those over-the-tub situations if that bothers you.

What I really liked was how the neighborhood works. There’s this excellent little café called Louvre just a few blocks away (it’s been around since 1902, apparently), and if you walk five minutes toward the National Museum, you hit some really solid restaurants that aren’t tourist traps. The hotel breakfast was… well, it’s hotel breakfast, but they had decent coffee and actual Czech pastries, not just generic croissants. Parking can be tricky around here – I mean, it’s Prague, so that’s not exactly shocking – but there are spots if you’re patient, or you can use the garage nearby for about 20 euros a day. The tram stop is literally right outside, and the green line gets you pretty much anywhere you want to go. I took it to Malá Strana one morning, and it was way easier than dealing with Old Town’s crowded streets. Staff seemed genuinely helpful when I asked about restaurant recommendations, and they pointed me toward places in the neighborhood rather than just the obvious tourist spots. That 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but everything works the way it should, the location is genuinely useful, and you’re not paying premium prices to be steps from the Astronomical Clock with all the chaos that brings.
