Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel At the Golden Scissors, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Prague’s Lesser Town. The building itself has that perfectly preserved historic charm — you know, the kind where every stone seems to have a story. What struck me right away was how intimate it feels; this isn’t some massive chain property but rather a boutique four-star hotel that actually feels like it belongs in this medieval neighborhood. The entrance on Na Kampe street is understated in the best possible way, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re staying in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities.

Location That Can’t Be Beat

I mean, let’s talk about where this place sits — because the location is genuinely extraordinary. You’re literally on Kampa Island, which locals sometimes call “Prague’s Venice,” and it’s just a two-minute walk to Charles Bridge. I watched couples stroll past my window heading to the bridge for sunrise photos, and I totally understood why the location scores so incredibly high with romantic travelers. The Old Town Square is maybe a seven-minute walk, but here’s what’s really great — you can escape back to this quiet island whenever the tourist crowds get overwhelming. There’s something almost magical about having Kampa Park right outside your door, especially in the early morning when it’s just you and a few joggers.

The Rooms and That Famous Sleep Quality

The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d hope for in a refined Prague hotel — not huge, but thoughtfully designed with a mix of contemporary comfort and subtle nods to the building’s history. What everyone raves about (and they’re absolutely right) are the beds. I’m usually a pretty light sleeper, but I slept like a rock here — the mattresses are seriously comfortable, and the rooms are surprisingly quiet given how central you are. The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed, though if you’re traveling with lots of luggage, just know that European hotel rooms tend to be more compact than what Americans might expect. Still, everything you need is there, and the attention to detail in the room design really shows.

Breakfast and Daily Rhythms

The breakfast buffet is solid — nothing revolutionary, but it covers all the bases with both Czech specialties and international options. What I actually loved most was sitting in the breakfast room watching the island wake up outside. You get a real sense of local life here that you miss when you’re staying in the more touristy areas across the river. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and they’re incredibly knowledgeable about Prague — they steered me toward a fantastic little wine bar just around the corner that I never would have found otherwise.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Prague has no shortage of beautiful hotels, but Hotel At the Golden Scissors hits this sweet spot that’s hard to find. You’re staying somewhere that feels authentically Prague — not some generic upscale property that could be anywhere — while still getting modern comfort and service. The combination of that unbeatable location, genuinely comfortable accommodations, and the intimate scale makes it feel like you’re experiencing the city as a temporary resident rather than just another tourist. For couples especially, there’s something undeniably romantic about falling asleep on this quiet island and waking up steps from one of the world’s most beautiful bridges.

Prague’s apartments welcome long stays with workspace corners, balcony views of the red rooftops, and quick routes to the tram lines and the metro.
