Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first heard about staying on a boat hotel in Prague, I was skeptical – it sounded like one of those gimmicky tourist traps. But Boat Hotel Matylda actually surprised me in the best way. She’s moored right on Masarykovo nabrezi, which means you’re literally floating on the Vltava with unobstructed views of Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge. I mean, you wake up and there’s the castle just sitting there across the water like a postcard that somehow became real life.

The thing is, it doesn’t feel like you’re roughing it on some converted barge. The cabins are genuinely comfortable – well, as comfortable as you can get in what’s essentially a floating hotel room. There’s this gentle rocking motion that I thought might keep me awake, but it actually becomes pretty soothing after the first night. You know what really sold me though? The deck area where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the city wake up. Around 7 AM, you’ll see the early joggers on the embankment and the first tour boats starting their routes, but you’re removed from all the street noise and chaos. It’s like having a front-row seat to Prague without dealing with the crowds on Kampa Island or the touristy mess around Old Town Square.

The location is actually brilliant when you think about it – you’re a quick walk to Národní třída metro station, so getting around is easy, but you’re also close enough to walk to all the major sites if you don’t mind a pleasant 15-minute stroll. I found myself using the nearby Slovanský Island as a shortcut to Nové Město, which locals definitely know about but tourists often miss. The staff really knows their stuff too – they’ll point you toward the good beer gardens (definitely hit up Letná Beer Garden if you have time) and the restaurants that aren’t total tourist traps. One small thing that bugged me was the Wi-Fi could be spotty depending on where you are on the boat, but honestly, when you’re floating on the Vltava watching the sunset paint Prague Castle golden, checking emails feels pretty pointless anyway. This place gets busy during summer and around Christmas markets season, so book ahead if you’re coming then. But if you can snag a spot, especially one of the upper deck rooms, you’re getting something special that most hotels in Prague just can’t offer.

Fabulous location, having stayed here before, we knew it was close enough to the city sights (20 minutes walk to the astronomical clock) but far enough out to have some peace and quiet. We had the end triple room with it's own balcony, and what a luxury. Comfy beds lovely breakfast, spotlessly clean and a decent shower.

A Perfect Stay – The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The boat itself was absolutely beautiful—well-maintained, comfortable, and full of character. The location was perfect, offering stunning views. Can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

    Magical stay, cannot recommend enough.

What could be improved: I liked everything

Perfect location. Staff were professional and very personable, like you would expect in hospitality. It was a lovely surprise to have our bedding and towels changed twice during our stay. Restaurant staff were attentive and polite. Breakfast was ample, delicious coffee. 😋 I liked the way the local police popped in and chatted.

What could be improved: There wasn't anything to not like.

What could be improved: There was nothing we didn’t like

Our stay at the hotel was amazing. All the hotel staff were incredibly kind, polite, and friendly to us. We had some questions and changes on our part, and the staff instantly resolved them and were very pleasant to communicate with. The hotel staff also helped arrange parking nearby, and we are very grateful for that. Our room was clean and cozy. The hotel was quiet and peaceful, so we had a great night’s sleep and woke up in the morning to a beautiful view of the river. On our next visits to Prague, we will definitely stay there again. Thank you for your hospitality, Hotel Matylda!

The hotel is in a very good location, close to the Dancing House and several interesting restaurants along the embankment. It's also within walking distance of the main attractions.

The room was very cozy with a comfortable bed.

I really enjoyed the breakfasts, which are served in the restaurant right next to the hotel. They are definitely worth the price.

What could be improved: Our room was not soundproof, and we could hear everything happening at the reception in detail.

It was also a bit inconvenient that our windows faced the embankment, as we couldn’t keep the curtains open without being visible from outside. Perhaps it would be better to book a room with a river view for more privacy

We stayed here off season for 2 nights, so it was very quiet all around. The location was great, not too near all the tourism, but close enough to see everything.
The staff greeted us very warmly by name upon arrival. She informed us that our room would not be available on the Matylda due to technical issues, but on the Klohilda we recieved a free upgrade. She spoke perfect english and helped us get our car situated in a nearby parking garage for 18€ a day (24hours) – Do take this offer. You won't find anything for less nearby.
We were able to get a table without reservation on the neighboring boat for dinner. It did fill up quick, so even off season you may need to reserve in advance. It was fantastic. I do recommend getting a meal there. The atmosphere was good, wait staff were friendly, spoke english and we were able to pay by card.
For breakfast we could order something from a menu, plus there was drinks, fruit, yogurt and bread available, buffet style. All was very fresh and nicely presented. I also recommend taking the breakfast for 12€. We only ate breakfast the first day, and on the second morning elsewhere, because we like to try out more than one place.
For those worried about getting "seasick" at night – no worries. I only noticed small waves twice, which may have been imagined. Even so, the beds are so comfortable and the bedding was very cozy.

What could be improved: Under the bed was a little dusty. Also, our towels were replaced even though we left them hanging. Personal eco choice on that one though.

  • Mark from United Kingdom – 14 January 2025 (9/10)

nice and spacious comfortable and warm the room breakfast was nice but only had it once location was great short walk to the centre and shops

What could be improved: weather it was cold but we new it would be at this time of year

  • Maria from Australia – 10 January 2025 (9/10)

Easy accessed by tram. The room was beautiful with view to the river. The shower was great and the bed very comfortable.
Location was great and easy 20' minutes to the old town. Staff very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend staying at the boatel. We loved it.

    What could be improved: Nothing.
