You know what caught me off guard about Apartments U Švejků? The name might sound a bit intimidating if you don’t speak Czech, but honestly, this place feels more like staying at a well-connected friend’s apartment than some sterile hotel room. It’s tucked right on Újezd street in Lesser Town, and I mean *right there* – you’re basically a three-minute walk from the base of Petřin Hill where all the locals go jogging in the mornings.

The building itself has that classic Prague charm without being overly touristy about it. When I first walked in, the lobby was refreshingly quiet (none of that echoing marble nonsense), and the check-in was surprisingly smooth for what’s technically a 3-star place. The apartments – and they really are apartments, not just hotel rooms with a kitchenette shoved in the corner – actually have proper living spaces. I’m talking real kitchens where you can cook dinner if you want to skip another schnitzel meal, which honestly saved me quite a bit of money during my week there. The furnishings aren’t going to win any design awards, but everything works and feels clean, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t try too hard to impress you.

What really sold me on the location was discovering that Újezd tram stop is literally right outside – I could hear the trams in the morning, but it’s more of a gentle city hum than actual noise pollution. From there, you can get to Old Town Square in about ten minutes, or hop on tram 22 (the one all the guidebooks mention) and ride it up to Prague Castle without dealing with the tourist crowds walking up those steep cobblestone streets. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re also walking distance to some genuinely good neighborhood spots. There’s this little wine bar called Vinárna U Fleku just around the corner that serves incredible Czech wines, and the morning bakery on Kampa Island is maybe a five-minute stroll if you cut through the park. The whole Kampa area feels like a secret pocket of the city, especially early in the morning when it’s just you and people walking their dogs. I spent more time there than I expected, just sitting by the water and watching the swans – sounds cheesy, but it’s actually pretty perfect after a day of sightseeing. The 8.8 rating makes total sense when you factor in that you’re getting genuine apartment living in one of Prague’s most beautiful neighborhoods, without paying those insane boutique hotel prices you’ll find closer to the main square.

  The location was fabulous, within walking distance of all attractions, nothing was more than a 30 minute walk away. The hosts were also great and were happy to stay up and open the door for us when we were leaving early/getting back late. The restaurant is is below was also great.
  
  What could be improved: The room got extremely warm, there was a fan provided however it was not always effective enough as it rattled the curtains, however this was not a huge problem and did not majorly impact our stay.

  The location, the apartments, the friendly staff, the breakfast, in fact this is a gem of a find. If you are looking for somewhere to stay, then book this place. The apartments are over a restaurant, which is where breakfast is served and the food is great to (the pork knee is to die for – trust me). Tramstops outside give quick access to all the major sights in Prague.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing I can think of is the shower head. It pointed too high and was not adjustable

  Location is very good, when we arrived tired from train station it was easy and quick to get there from the center of Prague. As we arrived in the evening we went to the pub downstairs, food and beer were very nice, same as the service by the staff. Room was clean and spacious. The member of staff showed us around the place and checked us in no problem. The staff were always welcoming and nice during all times of the stay. To the point when we forgot our AirPods they helped us to get them back, which doesn’t happen in all hotels 🙂 also included breakfast is very nice. Fans of Svejk like me will quite enjoy this place as it’s very nicely decorated around this theme

  Everything was really good and the hosts are very nice. We reached there two hours before check-in time but apartment was ready and they gave us our keys. The room is quiet large and very clean with a kitchenette and many utensils. The breakfast was also great and they were so kind that they packed our last day breakfast for take-away because we had to leave early in the morning. It is located near a tram station but we could also easily walk to the city center.
