U Medvidku-Brewery Hotel

Excellent location, delicious food--try the spa!

The location was amazing--very easy walking distance to everything I wanted to see and do! The next-door restaurant was also very good, and the people who worked there were helpful. Everyone spoke very good English, as well. I used the spa, and loved it--it was the highlight of my trip! The included breakfast was excellent.

What could be improved: The room (a single) was small which was fine, but there were only two hooks. An additional small shelf (especially near the bed, for charging the phone, etc) and a few more hooks would have been really great. The breakfast was great on the first day (I stayed two nights), but on the second, I needed to leave for the airport fairly early. They offer a "to-go" breakfast if you are leaving, as long as you arrange it with the desk the day before. I asked for a to-go breakfast, was told no problem, and then confirmed it with a second front-desk person later in the day. But when I checked out, there was no breakfast--they didn't make me a bag, which was disappointing.

Excellent hotel in a great spot filled with great staff.

The staff were extremely courteous and friendly. Nothing was too much effort for them. The room was spacious with a very good shower. The food and beer was also top class.

What could be improved: Nothing really.

Wonderful stay in characterful hotel in the centre of Prague Old Town

I stayed at the U - Medvidku hotel in Prague with my two (adult) sons for a short stay of two nights to visit friends in the City. This is a very characterful hotel converted from an old brewery. Because of the brevity of our stay, we wanted to stay in the centre of Prague, in the heart of the old city. To save costs, we also wished to share one large room. With many hotels, this was not possible - almost all had 1 double bed and 1 single bed for three people, which obviously wasn't acceptable in our case. However, this was possible at the U - Medvidku hotel, which has some larger rooms: we were able to share one larger room accommodating a maximum of four people with a double bed and two singles, which was just right.

We had a wonderful stay. This hotel is truly excellent. In particular, I would highlight:

1. The cleanliness - both our room and the rest of the hotel are spotlessly clean.
2. The helpfulness - the Reception Desk is manned 24 hours a day by welcoming staff who all speak English. They answered all our questions in a helpful way, and gave us a packed breakfast to take with us when we left at an inordinately early hour to catch an early flight, having first, also, booked a taxi to take us to the airport.
3. The food - our booking included breakfast, which was excellent, with many different food options and good coffee. We also ate in the hotel's restaurant on our first night, when we were served with traditional Czech dishes which was delicious.
4. The location - the hotel is right in the centre of the Old Town in Prague, so we never needed to take a bus to get around, we could walk right out into the centre of the City. For example, we were able to walk from the hotel to the ancient medieval astronomical clock in Prague Old Town, in five minutes.

Would I stay there again? - Absolutely. I travelled with my sons but I would also be very happy to go there alone - this hotel is excellent for all visitors, whether in a group or alone.

What could be improved: There is nothing that I didn't like, it was all great.
