White House Overview
So I ended up at the White House on Markova street – and no, not that White House, though the name definitely makes for some amusing conversations. This three-star spot sits in Prague’s Smíchov district, which honestly took me by surprise because it’s actually got this cool, lived-in neighborhood vibe that most tourists completely miss. You’re about a 15-minute tram ride from Old Town Square, but here’s the thing – you’ll want to take that ride because you get to see how actual Praguers live, not just the postcard version.
The hotel itself has this understated charm that I wasn’t expecting. I mean, it’s not going to blow you away with marble lobbies or anything fancy like that, but there’s something refreshingly honest about the place. The rooms are clean and comfortable – mine had these solid wooden floors that creaked just enough to feel authentic without being annoying. What really got me was the breakfast room with its big windows that actually open (you know how rare that is these days?). I’d sit there in the mornings watching the neighborhood wake up, hearing the trams rumble by on Plzeňská street. The staff genuinely seemed to care about getting things right, which you notice in small ways – like how they remembered I preferred my coffee strong, or how the front desk guy drew me a little map showing the shortcut to the river.
Here’s what makes this place work: it’s real Prague, not tourist Prague. You’ve got a proper Czech pub literally around the corner where locals hang out after work, and there’s this little bakery two blocks down that opens at 6 AM with the best koláče I had during my entire stay. The Anděl shopping center is walking distance if you need anything, but more importantly, you’re close to Petřin Park – perfect for those morning runs or afternoon walks when you need to escape the city buzz. The 7.5 rating makes total sense to me because it’s exactly what it promises to be: solid, comfortable, and genuinely Prague. It’s not trying to be the Ritz, and that’s precisely why it works. Plus, parking is actually possible here (unlike in the city center where you’ll go crazy looking for a spot), and the neighborhood stays lively but not rowdy in the evenings. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with character rather than just passing through another generic hotel, this is your spot.
Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.

Reviews of White House
Nice and cozy hotel with decent breakfast – Philip from Denmark – 9 May 2025 (7/10)
It was a cozy hotel with a decent breakfast and pool. It was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and it was only a ten minute walk to the metro station.
What could be improved: The price that was actually charged from my credit card was higher than the price advertised on booking.com, which I didn’t even know was possible. After confirming the booking they write a private message to you notifying you of the real price with some excuse relating to the currency exchange rate. I find it unsatisfactory that booking.com does not advertise the correct price.Very good – Svetlomira from Bulgaria – 12 June 2023 (8/10)
I really liked the fact that the room is big enough, the people, working there are friendly, the metro station is pretty close. The food – there was a variaty. There is also a pool in the hotel ans a terace where you can have your bfeakfast. Everything around is green. Ypu feel as if you are in the country side, but it's still 15 min ride away from the centre with the metro.
What could be improved: I don't have any complains.a nice cute little hotel on the edge of Prague, easily accessed from Jinonice, although there could be a language barrie – Aidan from United Kingdom – 2 January 2023 (6/10)
very nice and rustic, cosy little hotel, breakfast included
What could be improved: only had a twin room so I booked a new hotel,
even though I did try and email about asking for a double, days beforeVery good – Md from Germany – 15 December 2022 (8/10)
the property is very good and the stuffs are polite and helpful
What could be improved: it's a bit far from the city centerGood value for the money – Stjepan from Belgium – 16 June 2025 (8/10)
The location outside the city center (nice nature sounds and silent neighborhood) with access to the metro station. The staff were very kind and helpful.
What could be improved: The sound isolation between rooms is weak, but other guests were not disruptive during my stay.Good – Justyna from United Kingdom – 1 January 2024 (7/10)
Very friendly staff
What could be improved: Crumbs in child bedNice stay in a comfy room, but disappointed about the pool. – Kamila from Czech Republic – 1 November 2023 (7/10)
Nice clean room, friendly staff, good value and nice view. Surrounded by greenery.
What could be improved: I picked this hotel based on having a swimming pool. Then i asked about opening hours of the pool and they told me I won’t make it, because the pool is not heated yet. It should be written down on the hotel listing, or they should remove swimming pool from the facility in the period when the pool is not available.Good – Elnaz from Denmark – 1 August 2023 (7/10)
Breakfast is very good.
What could be improved: When I booked the hotel the currency was in Danish kroner, but when the money withdraw from my account, it's changed to Cze currency and the hotel used the FIXED EXCHANGE rate. So for sure you'll pay more price than the one it's offered.
Check out time was : 10 AMPleasant – Marko from Italy – 30 July 2023 (6/10)
What could be improved: The breakfast was very bad
Pleasant – Beyram from Germany – 25 May 2023 (6/10)
What could be improved: After ordering a double bed room, they changed it into 2 separate beds..
They are using a high exchange rate, made a booking with 320 euro and was charged with 360€.
