Hotel Description

So here’s the thing about Wagnerstays Royal Billiard Residence – the name makes it sound way fancier than it actually is, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re basically staying in this converted building on Černá street, which is this quiet little side street that most tourists never find. I mean, you’re still in Prague 1, so you can walk to Old Town Square in maybe 10 minutes, but it feels like you’ve discovered some local secret.

The billiard theme isn’t just marketing nonsense either – there’s actually a gorgeous antique billiard table in the common area that guests can use, and the whole place has this sort of old-world gentleman’s club vibe going on. Dark wood everywhere, heavy curtains, the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to pour yourself a whiskey even if it’s 2 PM. The rooms themselves are pretty spacious for Prague standards (and trust me, that matters when you’re dealing with centuries-old buildings), though you know what? The WiFi can be a bit spotty on the upper floors – not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning if you’re planning to work from your room.

What really got me was how quiet it is at night. Černá street doesn’t get the party crowds that stumble down Nerudova or the main tourist drags, so you can actually sleep with your windows open in summer. The staff genuinely seems to care too – not in that over-the-top hotel way, but more like… well, like they want you to have a good time in their city. They’ll tell you which tram to take to avoid the tourist traps, or where to get proper goulash that doesn’t cost a fortune. Check-in was smooth, though parking is basically nonexistent on the street itself – you’ll want to use one of the public garages nearby, which honestly isn’t unusual for this part of Prague. The breakfast situation is continental style, nothing revolutionary, but the coffee is surprisingly good and they have proper Czech pastries, not just generic hotel croissants. For a 3-star place pulling an 8.7 rating, it really delivers on being comfortable without trying too hard to impress you with amenities you don’t actually need.

I had an amazing stay at this apartment! It was clean, spacious, and had all the amenities needed for a comfortable visit. The decor was modern and stylish, making it feel like a home away from home.

One of the highlights was the hospitality of the host. We arrived earlier than expected, and they went out of their way to accommodate us, allowing us to check in at 12 PM instead of the usual 3 PM—such a thoughtful gesture! Plus, the apartment was stocked with coffee and tea, which was a lovely touch.

The location was absolutely perfect. Public transportation was also nearby, making getting around super convenient.

Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a great place in an ideal location. I’d definitely book again!

  • Vytas from United Kingdom – 18 March 2025 (5/10)

The apartment is located in a very good area, close to city centre and only 10 mins walk to beautiful Charles Bridge and old town. Nearby is a great rum bar serving cracking cocktails, high end venue perfect for a good time. Price = Quality.

The pool table was great way to spend time upon return from sight seeing. The host was very kind and informative to how to get to great food places and to the apartment.

Some gems we found was Georgian Gruzi restaurant serving great khinkali and house wine. As well as Clam Gallas Bistro Cafe serving fantastic Prague Breakfast more than filling for a long day of exploring.

What could be improved: Now the negatives. It is really unfortunate timing which we were visiting. Both above our flat and below our flat we had large group of teenagers/ young people staying at the apartments. They were quite loud, especially when returning at night. Woke my girlfriend up at 2am. In the morning when heading out the guests left a lot of mess, from used hygiene products on the floor to other rubbish. I felt both disgusted that someone was able to mess in the building so much and felt sorry for the poor cleaners who would have had to deal with it.

As for the sleep at the apartment we struggled with the continuous building/demolition work opposite our windows. Each morning at 8 am work trucks would begin smashing rubble and glass. Which made impossible to sleep in. Furthermore on one of the days we were woken up by a crane driving in and reversing/reving the engine at 5am until 6:30am. From the hosts point of view I would have expected a pre warning that building works were taking place opposite our windows. This would have most likely lead to us cancelling this apartment. It wasn't something that began few days before the demolition work has been taking place for a while.

Also I would suggest the hosts invest into better quality pillows as our were feather thin.

Overall I loved the apartment and the host. But lack of sleep and building works has really put a downer on the holiday.
