Unitas Hotel

Prague, Czech Republic
Bartolomějská 9, Prague, 110 00, Czech Republic

Overview

So here’s the thing about Unitas Hotel – it’s tucked away on Bartolomějská street, which honestly most tourists walk right past without noticing. But that’s actually perfect because you’re literally a two-minute stroll from Old Town Square without dealing with the chaos of staying right in the thick of it. I mean, you can hear the distant hum of crowds during peak summer days, but at night? Dead quiet, which is pretty remarkable for central Prague.

The building itself has this fascinating backstory – it used to be a convent, then got converted during the communist era (there’s still some original stonework if you look for it), and now it’s this boutique-y place that feels way more intimate than your typical four-star chain. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy – clean lines, decent space (well, decent for European standards), and those thick walls mean you’re not hearing your neighbors. The bathrooms are surprisingly modern, though the water pressure can be a bit temperamental in the morning when everyone’s showering. Check-in was smooth when I stayed, though the front desk staff’s English varies depending on who’s working – some are perfectly fluent, others… well, you might need to be patient.

What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation. It’s not some massive buffet spread, but everything’s clearly sourced locally and the coffee is actually good – not that bitter hotel coffee you usually get. Plus there’s this little courtyard area that catches morning sun perfectly if you’re an early riser. The location keeps proving itself throughout your stay too. You’re close enough to walk everywhere that matters (Wenceslas Square is maybe eight minutes), but you’re also near some of the better local spots that aren’t completely overrun with tour groups. There’s a fantastic traditional Czech place called U Fleku just around the corner that serves beer they’ve been brewing since the 1400s – honestly, skip the touristy places and head there instead. Parking is tricky like everywhere in Prague’s center, but they can arrange something if you call ahead, though I’d recommend just using public transport or walking. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you experience it – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but everything works properly, the staff genuinely wants to help, and you feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character rather than some sterile business hotel. Just book early if you’re coming during Christmas markets season because this type of place fills up fast with people who’ve figured out that location and charm beat amenities every time.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Prague at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous cultural festivals and outdoor concerts.

People at reception were kind and friendly. Location was really good. Everything was clean. The room was comfortable and had everything you might need.

What could be improved: Just a detail: pillows were not so comfortable.
