U Schnellu Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to U Schnellu on Tomasska Street, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — you know, the kind of place that feels like a local secret even though it’s right in the heart of everything. This three-star hotel sits tucked away on a quiet cobblestone street, but honestly, the location is what really caught my attention first. I mean, you’re literally steps from Prague Castle and the Lesser Town, which is pretty incredible when you think about it.
Location & Neighborhood
The thing about staying in Prague‘s Mala Strana district is that you’re basically living like a local — well, if locals got to wake up to castle views every morning. What I love about this spot is how you can wander down to Charles Bridge in about five minutes, but when you come back to Tomasska Street in the evening, it’s actually peaceful. The couples who stay here seem to really get it (they rate the location 9.6, which honestly makes sense), because there’s something romantic about those narrow medieval streets that tourist-heavy areas just can’t match.
The Room Experience
The rooms at U Schnellu have this authentic Prague character that you either love or… well, you probably love if you’re choosing to stay in a historic building. My room had those thick walls and small windows that remind you this place has been around for centuries — but in a good way, not in a “why is everything so cramped” way. The furnishings strike that balance between traditional Czech style and modern comfort, though don’t expect cutting-edge amenities. What you get instead is charm and a sense of place that chain hotels just can’t replicate.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast here actually surprised me — they’ve got this whole spread set up with continental options, vegetarian choices, and even breakfast to go if you’re planning an early castle visit. The buffet isn’t huge, but it’s thoughtfully put together with local touches alongside the standard European fare. I appreciated that they seem to understand different travel styles — some people want to linger over coffee and pastries, others need to grab something quick and get moving. The breakfast restaurant area has these lovely old windows that let in morning light, making it feel less like a hotel dining room and more like a neighborhood café.
Why Guests Love It
Look, U Schnellu isn’t trying to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-located hotel that delivers exactly what Prague visitors actually want. The 8.5 rating makes perfect sense when you consider that prime location score of 9.7, because honestly, being able to explore Prague Castle and Lesser Town on foot while staying somewhere quiet enough to actually sleep well? That’s the sweet spot. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days wandering through one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, then come back to a peaceful street where you can actually hear yourself think. For the price point and location, it just works.

Reviews of U Schnellu
Prague is fabulous and this hotel is a great place to stay – Ian from United Kingdom – 24 July 2025 (10/10)
Very traditional with many interesting and historic features. Literally 5 minutes walk from the iconic Charles Bridge.
What could be improved: Because of its historic condition there is no lift, so you will have to be fit if you are on the third floor – we were kindly upgraded to the first floor.
The staff were all very friendly and accommodating.Superb – Maria from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (9/10)
Great location, lovely staff, 20% off in the restaurant (can recommend wild boar goulash), would definitely recommend
Superb – Victoria from United Kingdom – 5 June 2025 (9/10)
The location is great for exploring Prague Old and Lesser Town and the exterior of the hotel is beautiful and reminds me a of a Wes Anderson film. I also loved all the decoration inside the breakfast room with portraits and newspapers of famous Czech people. The buffet breakfast is great with a good selection of bread, cakes and cold meats. They will also cook you eggs in the morning. The room was cosy and clean and no noise from outside or other guests.
Superb – Amy from United States – 2 June 2025 (9/10)

Room has wonderful view to the cathedral. Heating radiator worked very well and the air heater was also excellent. Breakfast was the best!!! Super delicious. I will visit again if I fly to Prague.

Historic restaurant/hotel in the heart of old Prague – Tim from Bulgaria – 28 October 2024 (10/10)
Historic restaurant/hotel in the heart of old Prague. Room was large and comfortable. Guests in the hotel are offered a discount in the restaurant- which was so good that we didn't go anywhere else 🙂
What could be improved: Some people might find the trams noisy (we liked them, they add atmosphere)
