U modrého orla – At the blue eagle

Overview

First Impressions

Walking into U modrého orla – At the blue eagle feels like stepping into a piece of Prague’s living history. This four-star property sits right on Týn street in Old Town, and I mean right in the thick of things — you’re literally surrounded by centuries-old architecture and cobblestone streets that have seen emperors and revolutionaries alike. The building itself has that authentic Central European charm you can’t fake, with thick walls and period details that remind you this isn’t some modern chain hotel trying to look historic.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, the location here is pretty spectacular — there’s a reason couples rate it 9.7 for romantic getaways. You’re a two-minute walk from the Astronomical Clock (though you’ll hear the hourly chimes from your room, which is either charming or annoying depending on your perspective). The Týn Church towers are right there, and you can actually see them from some rooms. What I really appreciate is that you’re close enough to everything that matters — Wenceslas Square, Charles Bridge, the Jewish Quarter — but tucked away on a quieter street so you’re not dealing with the worst of the tourist crowds right outside your door.

The Rooms

The rooms have that refined European feel without being stuffy about it. You know what struck me most? The attention to maintaining the building’s character while making sure everything actually works properly — the heating, the plumbing, the wifi. Some of these historic Prague hotels can be a bit hit-or-miss on the practical stuff, but U modrého orla – At the blue eagle seems to have found that sweet spot. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Old Town Prague, after all), but they’re thoughtfully laid out and the beds are genuinely comfortable.

Breakfast & Practical Details

The buffet breakfast is solid — nothing revolutionary, but it covers all the bases with both Czech and international options. I actually enjoyed having proper Czech pastries and local cheeses alongside the usual hotel fare. The dining area has a cozy, intimate feel that matches the rest of the property. One thing to note: this is a smaller hotel, so the breakfast room can get a bit crowded during peak times, but the staff manages it well and the atmosphere stays relaxed.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it balances authenticity with comfort — you get that genuine Prague experience without sacrificing modern conveniences. The staff clearly knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward the less touristy spots that locals actually frequent. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying in a place with this much history and character, right in the heart of one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. The 8.2 rating feels about right — it’s not perfect, but it delivers exactly what you’d hope for from an upscale boutique hotel in this location.

Everything was amazing, tidy and clean. All in place, nice apartment to stay

What could be improved: Only problem, was the address, when I was on google maps to find the place sent us 10 min away from where was exactly. When I called for the number he barely helped me, saying find the Irish pub. We were close to one and wasn’t the place. Nobody knows where was the place that we wrote to find.
But in the end we found the place, staffs were amazing and friendly

The place is in a fantastic spot in the city centre, the cafe downstairs is really cozy and mostly crowded of local people. The room is soo comfortable, especially the bed. The shower always has hot water

What could be improved: The only minor downsides are the use of two blankets instead of a kingsize one, and there’s a problem with the draining of the shower, after a while it fills up of water
