Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Tyn Yard Residence? The location is absolutely ridiculous – and I mean that in the best possible way. You’re literally staying in one of Prague’s most historic courtyards, tucked behind the famous Týn Church with those Gothic spires that dominate Old Town Square. I mean, when I tell people the address is just “Tyn 637/7,” they think I’m being cryptic, but honestly, that’s how central this place is.

The building itself has this wonderful old-meets-new thing going on that actually works (unlike some Prague hotels that try too hard). The apartments – because that’s really what they are – feel like someone’s stylish Prague flat rather than a cookie-cutter hotel room. High ceilings, original wooden beams in some units, but with modern kitchenettes and bathrooms that don’t make you feel like you’re roughing it. The 4-star rating is spot-on; it’s comfortable and well-appointed without being stuffy. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – considering you’re maybe 200 meters from the astronomical clock and all those tourist crowds, the evenings are surprisingly peaceful once you close the windows.

Here’s the thing about staying here that most people don’t realize until they arrive: you’re going to become one of those travelers who just pops back to drop off shopping bags or grab a quick coffee break. Having a proper kitchen means you can hit up the Havelské Tržiště market (just a few minutes’ walk) and actually do something with those gorgeous Czech pastries and local produce. The staff knows their stuff too – they’ll tell you to hit Lokál for dinner before 6 PM to avoid the wait, or which entrance to use for Prague Castle to skip the main crowds. Small details, but the kind that make a difference when you’re trying to experience Prague like less of a tourist, you know? The 8.4 rating makes sense once you factor in that sweet spot between location, comfort, and having your own space. Sure, it’s pricier than staying out in Vinohrady or Karlín, but honestly – when you can walk to Charles Bridge for sunrise photos in your pajamas and slippers, the premium feels worth it.

The location is perfect! Literally 2 mins away from the Christmas market! The room is also so spacious which is rare to find. We were well taken care of by the host and super helpful with suggestions! Thank you so much and we will def come again when we visit!

What could be improved: Everything was perfect

  • Tundi from Australia – 25 March 2025 (9/10)

This was a beautiful place to stay- a very historical building in the heart of the old town. The room was huge and well appointed with comfy armchairs and the best beds and pillows we have had in a long time! Despite several bars in the square, the walls and windows were so thick you couldn't hear them at all once in the room. Staff were so lovely.

What could be improved: Was difficult to carry bags up the stairs, however the staff helped to do this.

  • Tomáš from Czech Republic – 2 March 2025 (9/10)

Nice old house, big comfortable bad, comfortable bathroom with bath.

What could be improved: Surrounding streets loud in the night.

  • Kate from Germany – 5 February 2025 (9/10)

Really perfect place to stay. Room was brilliant, location couldn’t have been better.

  • Luisa from United States – 21 January 2025 (9/10)

Tyn Yard Residence is in such a prime location! Our room was beautiful, spacious, had everything we could need. The bed was so comfortable and honestly even better than the pictures. The breakfast was at a nearby restaurant and it was delicious. We arrived really early and were able to leave our suitcases at the hotel next door. I loved my stay at the Tyn Yard Residence and can't wait to go back to Prague and stay steps away from the old town center. Pavel spoke with us the entire time and was a great resource, very welcoming. I can go on and on. Thank you Tyn Yard!

What could be improved: There are no complaints. Just a warning: there is no elevator. We were on the first floor so we did not have trouble but keep in mind if that sort of stuff bothers you.

  • Georgios from Greece – 17 January 2025 (9/10)

Absolutely beautiful spacious rooms a breath away from the center in a quite square with no cars . Staff he was polite and also arrange a taxi. Breakfast served by the corner which was very nice cafe.

What could be improved: All good

  • Jane from United Kingdom – 8 January 2025 (9/10)

The room was extremely comfortable, warm and really well equipped.

What could be improved: I booked 2 rooms and one of the rooms' bathroom was a bit whiffy

  • Anita from United Kingdom – 29 December 2024 (7/10)

The location to the Old Town Square is perfect, being only a very short walk away.

The room was huge, and the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The room was warm and the manager was very welcoming on arrival.

What could be improved: I did not know what a 'Residence' was. Our tour guide explained it's accommodation that offers bedrooms and little else, and that don't have to meet other hotel requirements.

I was shocked that we couldn't get into the property on arrival, but as the manager had previously called me to find out what time we would be arriving, I luckily had his number and was able to call for assistance.

The only staff member we saw was Pavel, the manager (who was very welcoming).I did not like the fact that there was no staff on site most of the time.

There was no reception, merely a little desk and laptop on the landing, 'fenced off' with trellis and a padlock!

Breakfast was included in the price of our stay, but be aware this is served at a little cafe round the corner. Vouchers will be given to you on arrival. The cafe is quaint and the food was good (limited choice for gluten-free diets). But the cafe is very popular and very small! We managed to get a space squashed in the corner on the first morning, the 2nd morning, we learned from our mistake and pitched up early (with no problem) and the third day we could not get in at all so had to go elsewhere and pay again for breakfast.

There is a very small window of time each day that staff are onsite.

The lock on our door was very tricky to open, however the manager did all he could to make it better.

Our room overlooked the pretty courtyard, but just to mention that music from the bar/restaurant next door went on until 11.30pm. it didn't particularly bother us, but it may do others who stay here.

Think of it more like an Air B&B than anything else. You'll be given a front door key and a bedroom door key. The landing and stairwell is very tired, but the room was great.

  • Nicholas from United Kingdom – 19 December 2024 (9/10)

    Absolutely everything

What could be improved: Everything was fantastic

  • Maru from United States – 19 December 2024 (9/10)

Location is 2 mins walk to the main square & breakfast vouchers. Pavel was very helpful & accommodating.

What could be improved: No elevator
