You know what struck me first about The President? It’s got this quietly confident vibe that comes from being right in the thick of Prague’s New Town without shouting about it. I mean, Náměstí Curieových isn’t exactly a household name for most tourists, but honestly – that’s part of what makes this place work so well. You’re basically a ten-minute walk from Wenceslas Square, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant stream of tour groups and street performers right outside your window.

The building itself has that classic Prague grandeur thing going on, but inside it feels surprisingly modern without being sterile (you know how some five-star places can feel like fancy hospitals?). The lobby actually feels lived-in rather than posed for Instagram, which I appreciate. What really got my attention though was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood – when I asked about getting to the Jewish Quarter without taking the obvious tourist route, the concierge sketched out this little side street shortcut that saved me probably twenty minutes and led past this amazing little bakery I never would’ve found otherwise.

The rooms are solid – I had one facing the square and while it wasn’t completely silent (this is central Prague after all), the windows do a decent job keeping the noise manageable. Actually, I kind of liked hearing a bit of the city buzz… made me feel more connected to the place rather than isolated in some generic hotel bubble. The bathroom was one of those marble situations that looks impressive but can be a bit slippery when wet – just something to keep in mind if you’re not great with smooth surfaces after a long day of walking on cobblestones.

What I found interesting was how the hotel sits in this sweet spot between the tourist-heavy Old Town and the more residential areas where actual Praguers live and work. You can grab breakfast at the hotel (which is genuinely good, not just hotel-good), but there’s also this fantastic little café about two blocks away where locals line up for coffee and pastries – and I only found it because I got slightly lost trying to find the metro station. The Muzeum station is closer than you’d think, by the way, maybe a seven-minute walk if you don’t get distracted by shop windows.

Honestly, the 8.9 rating makes sense to me. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Prague, but everything works the way it should, the location gives you options, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels substantial rather than trendy. If you’re the type who wants to be able to walk to the major sights but also slip away from the tourist intensity when you need a breather, this spot delivers on that balance pretty well.
