Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Prague, and The King Charles on Úvoz street is one of those finds that makes you feel a bit smug about your travel choices. It’s tucked up in Lesser Town – you know, that impossibly charming area below the castle where tourists get lost trying to find their way back to the Charles Bridge. The thing is, Úvoz street itself is this quiet, tree-lined stretch that most people walk right past without noticing, which honestly works in your favor because it means you’re sleeping somewhere genuinely peaceful while still being maybe ten minutes from all the action.

The hotel has that solid four-star feel without trying too hard to impress you with marble everything and gold fixtures. I mean, it’s elegant, but in that understated European way where the details actually matter – like how the staff remembers your coffee preference after day two, or how they’ll casually mention that the best goulash in the neighborhood is at this tiny place around the corner that doesn’t even have a sign. The rooms are what you’d expect from a place with an 8.8 rating – comfortable beds (actually comfortable, not just decent), good water pressure, and windows that open properly so you can hear the church bells from St. Nicholas in the morning. There’s something about waking up to those bells instead of traffic noise that just sets the right tone for exploring Prague.

What really sells me on this place is the location intelligence, if that makes sense. You’re positioned perfectly to walk up to Prague Castle without dealing with the tour bus crowds that clog up the main routes – there are these winding side paths that the hotel staff will point out if you ask. And when you’re done with castle views and want dinner, you can wander down toward Kampa Island or cross over to Old Town, but you always have this quiet street to come back to. The whole Lesser Town area gets this lovely golden light in the evenings, especially in summer, and honestly there’s something magical about walking back to your hotel past baroque buildings and gas-lit streets. Parking can be tricky in this part of the city – it’s all narrow medieval streets, obviously – but the hotel sorts that out for you. I’d definitely book this place again, particularly if you’re the type who appreciates being somewhere that feels authentically Prague rather than just convenient to Prague.

To book a hotel in Prague during the famous Easter Market season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts history enthusiasts and architecture lovers from around the world.

  • Pascale from Canada – 17 January 2025 (9/10)

Building is very beautiful. Medieval vibe. Big room.
Good breakfast with lot of choices. 24h reception.
    Just below the castle.

What could be improved: I had a room with a bath/shower. Bath is really deep. Its quite a step to get out. Would need a non slip bath rug. Otherwise nothing. Everything was nice.

  • Kevin from Ireland – 25 November 2024 (9/10)

Very beautiful hotel that is very close to Prague Castle. The rate was very competitive.

What could be improved: This is not something that "I didnt like" – but it is best to make clear that it at the top of a hill on a road not serviced by public transport. Plan ahead if anyone in your group has mobility issues.
