You know what struck me first about The Hotel Fitzgerald? It’s tucked away on Vitkova street in this residential part of Prague that most tourists never see – and honestly, that’s half the charm. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to the main sights, but you get to experience what it’s like living in an actual Prague neighborhood instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble around Old Town Square.

The building itself has this understated elegance that feels very Prague to me – not the flashy kind of four-star place you’d find on Wenceslas Square, but something more authentic. The lobby’s got these high ceilings and original details that remind you you’re in a city with serious architectural history, but they’ve updated everything in a way that actually works. Check-in was refreshingly smooth (no endless upselling), and the staff seemed to genuinely know the area – like when I asked about getting to Vinohrady for dinner, the desk clerk immediately suggested taking the tram from IP Pavlova rather than walking, which saved me a good twenty minutes. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get everywhere.

The rooms hit that sweet spot between comfortable and memorable. Nothing over-the-top, but the beds are actually good (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to spread out without feeling like you’re camping in a closet. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night – Vitkova isn’t a party street, so you can actually sleep with the windows open when the weather’s nice. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile, and honestly, the water pressure was better than my apartment back home. Small thing, but it matters when you’ve been walking around Prague all day. The whole place has this lived-in quality that makes it feel less like a hotel and more like staying at a friend’s really nice place – if your friend happened to have professional housekeeping and a 24-hour front desk, of course. It’s got that 8.8 rating for good reason, and after staying there, I get why people keep coming back to this particular corner of Prague instead of hopping around to different hotels each visit.
