Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Prague, and The Golden Wheel Hotel on Nerudova Street is one of those spots that just gets it right. You know that feeling when you walk into a place and immediately think “okay, these people actually care”? That’s what happened here. The building itself has this authentic old-world charm – I mean, you’re literally on the historic route up to Prague Castle, so everything around here dates back centuries – but inside, they’ve managed to blend modern comfort without making it feel like a generic chain hotel.

What really struck me was how quiet it is, which honestly surprised me at first since Nerudova can get pretty busy during the day with all the tourists heading up to the castle. But here’s the thing – most of that foot traffic dies down by evening, and the hotel’s design somehow buffers most of the street noise anyway. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too, which you don’t always get. When I asked about a good spot for dinner that wasn’t crawling with tour groups, the guy at the front desk didn’t just hand me a generic list – he told me about this little wine bar tucked away on Kampa Island that I never would have found otherwise. That kind of local insight is worth its weight in gold when you’re trying to experience Prague like an actual person instead of just another tourist.

The rooms themselves are well… they’re not huge, but honestly, who spends their time in Prague sitting in a hotel room? They’re comfortable, the beds are actually good (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. What I really appreciated was the attention to small details – decent lighting for reading, proper hangers in the closet, and thank god, reliable wifi. Plus, you’re a five-minute walk from Lesser Town Square and maybe ten minutes down to Charles Bridge if you take the scenic route through the narrow side streets. The location means you can easily walk to dinner in the evening and stumble back uphill afterward, which – let’s be real – is exactly what you want to be able to do in a city like this. At 8.6 rating, it’s clearly not just me who thinks they’re doing something right here. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without paying resort prices or dealing with stuffy formality.

  What could be improved: I stayed here several years ago more than once and it was wonderful – top notch. Rooms were beautifully decorated with painted ceilings or other decor. Now very plain and typical. They seem to have slipped on the little things – breakfast not as fresh and not as much variety, no Kleenex in the room, staff sometimes begrudgngly helpful or not at all.

  What could be improved: Heaters were slow to warm up but eventually got to a warm enough level. Elevator doesn’t get all the way to rooms 16 through 18 so be prepared to carry luggage up a couple flights of stairs some outside.
