So I stumbled across The Bookhouse completely by accident while wandering around Pohořelec, and honestly? Best happy accident I’ve had in Prague. This isn’t your typical hotel – it’s actually a gorgeous 5-bedroom residence that feels more like you’re staying at your impossibly cool friend’s place, assuming your friend happens to live in a converted historic building literally steps from Prague Castle.

The location is what really gets you though. I mean, you’re on Pohořelec square, which most tourists rush through on their way to the castle without realizing they’re missing this little pocket of old Prague magic. The building itself has that weathered elegance thing going on – you know, where the stones look like they’ve got stories but everything inside is surprisingly modern and comfortable. What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re basically in the shadow of one of Europe’s most visited landmarks. The castle crowds thin out after sunset, and suddenly you’ve got this almost medieval stillness broken only by the occasional tram rumbling down the hill toward Malá Strana.

The space itself is thoughtfully done – five bedrooms means it’s perfect for families or groups who actually want to hang out together instead of hiding in separate hotel rooms. The kitchen is properly equipped (not just a mini-fridge and coffee maker situation), which turned out to be clutch since there’s a great little market just down Loretánská where you can grab fresh bread and local cheese. I loved that they didn’t go overboard with the “Prague castle theme” decorating – it’s tasteful and understated, letting the incredible views do the talking. And those views… well, you’ll spend way too much time on your phone trying to capture them, trust me. The staff clearly knows their stuff too – they gave us insider tips about which castle entrance to use (the one most people miss) and when to hit the gardens for the best light. Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of Hradčany, but they sorted that out without any drama.

Here’s the thing about staying here – you’re not just close to Prague Castle, you’re living in its neighborhood. You’ll walk the same cobblestone paths that locals use as shortcuts, you’ll hear the castle bells marking the hours, and you’ll understand why this area feels so different from the bustle down in Old Town. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s that rare place that manages to be both incredibly convenient and genuinely atmospheric. Fair warning though – once you’ve experienced Prague from this angle, staying anywhere else in the city is going to feel like settling.
