Royal Route Residence Lesser Town

Prague, Czech Republic
7 náměstí Kinských, Prague, 150 00, Czech Republic

Overview

So I’ve stayed at the Royal Route Residence in Lesser Town a few times now, and honestly? It’s one of those places that just gets Prague right. You know how some hotels feel like they could be anywhere in the world – well, this isn’t one of them. The moment you walk into that building on Kinských Square, you’re very much in old Prague, but without feeling like you’re sleeping in a museum.

The location is actually pretty brilliant – I mean, you’re right in Lesser Town (Malá Strana if you want to sound local), which puts you walking distance from Prague Castle without being in the thick of the tourist chaos. Kinských Square itself is this lovely little pocket that most visitors rush past on their way to the bigger attractions, but there’s something really charming about having your morning coffee and watching the locals go about their day. The tram stop is literally around the corner, which saved me so many times when my feet gave out from all the cobblestone walking. And speaking of cobblestones – fair warning, if you’re dragging a wheeled suitcase, your arms will get a workout getting there.

What really won me over was how they’ve managed to blend the historic character with actual comfort. The rooms have these gorgeous high ceilings and original details, but the beds are properly comfortable (not those rock-hard European mattresses you sometimes get stuck with), and the bathrooms are modern without feeling sterile. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – not just the tourist spots, but where to grab a decent lunch or which streets get crazy crowded during castle tour season. I remember asking about a good place for breakfast that wasn’t touristy, and they sent me to this little bakery about three blocks away that I never would have found otherwise.

The building itself has that wonderful old Prague energy – you can hear your footsteps echo a bit in the hallways, and there’s this particular smell of old wood and stone that somehow feels cozy rather than musty. It gets pretty quiet at night, which surprised me given how central you are. I think it’s because the square doesn’t really have bars or restaurants that stay open super late, so you get this peaceful residential vibe once evening settles in.

One thing to keep in mind – this is very much a European-style property, so rooms aren’t huge by American standards, but they’re thoughtfully laid out. The 4-star rating feels accurate; it’s polished and well-run without being stuffy or overly formal. The 8.8 rating makes sense too – it’s the kind of place that does what it does really well, though it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Prague.

If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying in a real Prague neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble, this place delivers. Just bring comfortable walking shoes and maybe pack light if you’re planning to explore on foot – trust me on that one.

Absolutely loved this spacious and bright two-bedroom and two-bathroom apartment on the third floor of a grand building overlooking a square and the park (make sure to climb the hill for spectacular views of the city). We were welcomed to the apartment and shown around and given detailed information about the city and where to dine. Our kind host, Josef, was always on call to answer any questions. If I could, I would give the apartment even more stars, we liked it so much! It was perfect for a family of four and we had so much space: the apartment is well furnished, super clean, and warm (we stayed in winter). Josef also agreed to a late check-out and we were able to leave our luggage at reception. The friendly and tasty cafe next door, where we got a discounts as residents, was another flourish to our stay. The apartment is located in the Lesser Town, within a short walk or tram ride to the centre and two streets away from the River front, within reach of all the attractions but away from the tourist area and in a genuine Prague neighborhood.

What could be improved: Everything was to our liking.

Glorious apartment in the best location.
The Royal Route Residence Lesser Town had everything well organised for my arrival.
Plans changed with my train breakdown on route which was not a problem for management.
Plan B was emailed to me within minutes with the most user friendly set of instructions provided.
The apartment had everything I needed ready to go and a booklet of super helpful tips.

What could be improved: When you first enter, the front hall and doorway to stairs seem uninviting.
