Royal Road Residence

Capital City of Prague, Czechia
Karlova 20, Prague, 110 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what struck me first about Royal Road Residence? The location is absolutely killer – I mean, you’re literally on Karlova Street, which is this winding medieval path that connects Old Town Square to Charles Bridge. When I walked out the front door in the morning, I could hear the clip-clop of horse carriages and the distant hum of tourists already gathering around the Astronomical Clock, but honestly, once you’re inside, it’s surprisingly quiet. The building itself has this old-world charm that you’d expect from a place that’s probably been standing since the 14th century, though they’ve clearly put some work into modernizing the rooms without going overboard with it.

The thing about staying right in the heart of Prague’s tourist zone is that it can go either way – you’re either perfectly positioned or completely overwhelmed by crowds. This place actually manages to thread that needle pretty well. Sure, you’ll deal with some foot traffic outside (especially in summer when the streets are packed until late), but the trade-off is incredible. I could stumble back from dinner in Lesser Town in about ten minutes, and getting to Wenceslas Square was just a quick walk through the twisted cobblestone streets. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable with decent Wi-Fi and surprisingly good water pressure. I mean, some of these old Prague buildings have plumbing that seems like an afterthought, but they’ve sorted that out here.

What really won me over was the staff’s local knowledge – they didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map, but actually pointed me toward this little wine bar on Nerudova Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The check-in was smooth, and they were pretty flexible about storing luggage before the room was ready, which saved my afternoon since I’d arrived on an early flight. Look, if you’re the type who needs a full-service hotel with a concierge and room service, this probably isn’t your spot. But if you want to be in the absolute center of everything – and I mean everything, since you’re literally walking distance from Prague Castle, the Jewish Quarter, and all the main sights – while staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than touristy, then Royal Road Residence hits the sweet spot. That 8.9 rating makes sense to me; it’s not perfect, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.

Exceptional

The staff made a surprise for us due to my wife's birthday. We found a beautiful card with very warm massage and a gift πŸ™Œ Many thanks to the hostes! The flet itself is huge, high ceilings, comfortable bed, top location, which gives you opportunity to see the city in any time of the day or night, you can get anywhere by foot, you have your own kitchen were you can cook, you even have a washing machine.

The fasad of the building is under restoration, so it there are constructions and nets outside of the windows, although they didn't bothered us much for someone workers walking right outside their windows could be uncomfortable, i hope the works will finish fast (massage is from July 2025). Anyway I think the price for this type of apparent and location was quite law and that could be connected to that type of works, so form me the price issue was a plus.

Wonderful stay in central historical location

I liked very much the location which was central easy access to tourist attractions. Apartment was large, comfortabe, clean, with all the facilities I needed. The communication with the host was excellent which made the difference as I had to call several times to get information on direction and car parking.

What could be improved: Some nights you could hear people on the streets in the middle of the night, which is fully understandable because of the location of the apartment. The host are aware of this and provide ear plugs when needed in case you cannot sleep.
