You know what caught me off guard about River View Residence? It actually lives up to its name – and honestly, that’s rarer than you’d think in Prague. The building sits right on Naplavni, which means you’re literally steps from the Vltava riverbank. I mean, you can watch the morning joggers and evening dog walkers from your window while sipping coffee, which is pretty much the Prague experience I never knew I needed.

The thing about this place is it feels like someone’s stylish aunt converted her apartment building into a hotel – in the best possible way. The lobby isn’t trying too hard with marble and chandeliers, but there’s this understated elegance that works. Check-in was smooth (the staff actually speak excellent English, which… well, you’ll appreciate that). What really sold me was stepping into the room and seeing the Petřín Hill rising up across the water. During spring, those trees just explode with green, and in winter – okay, it’s a bit stark, but there’s something romantic about the bare branches against the Prague skyline.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot that most tourists miss. Kampa Island is right there for your morning walk, and you can reach Old Town in about fifteen minutes on foot along the river path. But here’s the insider bit – you’re actually closer to some of Prague’s best restaurants than if you stayed in the touristy center. Lokál Dlouhááá is a quick tram ride away (seriously, get the pork knee), and there’s this little wine bar called Vinograf just up the hill that locals guard like a state secret. The Anděl metro station is maybe a ten-minute walk, which connects you to everything else you’ll want to see.

I’ll be honest – the rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in European hotels), and the bathrooms have proper water pressure. Small details matter when you’re jet-lagged, you know? There’s decent soundproofing too, though you might catch some tram noise if you’re a really light sleeper. The Wi-Fi works everywhere, which is more than I can say for some five-star places I’ve stayed.

What impressed me most was how the place feels connected to Prague without being overwhelmed by it. You’re not fighting crowds of tourists every time you step outside, but you’re not stranded in some sterile business district either. The riverfront here has this lived-in quality – families feeding ducks, couples sharing park benches, that sort of thing. It’s Prague as people actually live it, not just the postcard version. For a four-star place, it punches above its weight in terms of the experience you get, and honestly, that 8-rating feels about right – really solid, just missing that extra spark that would make it unforgettable.
