Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Rezidence Jeseniova Prague when I first booked it – I mean, it’s tucked away in Karlín, which honestly most tourists completely skip over. But walking up to this place, there’s something immediately reassuring about it. The building has that solid, renovated feel without trying too hard to be fancy, and the lobby actually smells clean instead of that weird hotel carpet smell you get sometimes.

The thing about staying here is you’re really living like a local in one of Prague’s most interesting neighborhoods. Karlín used to be pretty industrial – you can still see some of that character in the converted buildings around – but now it’s where young Czechs actually want to live. There’s this fantastic coffee shop called Cafe Louvre just a few streets over (not the touristy one near Wenceslas Square, a different one), and honestly, walking to the old town takes maybe 20 minutes along the river, which is way more pleasant than being stuck right in the tourist chaos. The tram connections are solid too – you’re basically two stops from the main train station if you need to catch something early.

What really got me about this place though is how they’ve nailed the apartment-style setup without making it feel sterile. The rooms – well, they’re more like proper apartments – have kitchens that you’d actually want to use, not those sad little kitchenettes with one burner that barely works. I ended up cooking breakfast most mornings because there’s a Tesco nearby, and it felt surprisingly natural. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the WiFi actually works throughout the building, which you’d think would be standard everywhere by now, but… you know how it is. The staff speaks solid English, though they seem to appreciate it when you throw in a “dobrý den” – nothing fancy, just basic politeness that goes a long way.

One thing I should mention – and this might actually be a plus depending on what you’re after – is that evenings here are properly quiet. You’re away from the stag party crowds that seem to gravitate toward the center, so if you’re someone who needs decent sleep, this works. The neighborhood has a few good pubs (U Fleku’s famous, but the locals hit up smaller places like Pivnice U Pivrnce), and there’s something nice about ending the day somewhere that feels real instead of performatively Czech for tourists. The whole area comes alive during the day with people heading to work, kids going to school, that sort of authentic city rhythm that you miss when you’re staying right in the tourist bubble. For a 3-star place, they’re punching well above their weight – that 9.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there a few days and realized how much more relaxed you feel compared to staying in the scrum of Old Town.

The concierge service in Prague can arrange exclusive tours of Prague Castle, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize personalized visits to Charles Bridge and the UNESCO World Heritage historic center.
