Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Residence u Vejvodů? The building itself – it’s tucked into this narrow medieval street called Jilská, and honestly, you could walk right past it if you weren’t looking. But that’s actually part of its charm. I mean, you’re literally steps from Old Town Square, but the street feels almost secretive, like you’ve discovered something the tour groups haven’t figured out yet.

The hotel sits in what’s basically the heart of everything – and I’m not just saying that because it sounds good. Walk three minutes and you’re at the Astronomical Clock (though honestly, skip the crowds at noon and see it early morning instead). The thing is, Jilská connects to all these winding cobblestone alleys that lead everywhere you actually want to go. There’s this fantastic little wine bar, Bokovka, practically around the corner that most visitors never find. The building itself feels properly old Prague – thick walls, narrow staircases, the kind of place where you can imagine merchants staying centuries ago, except now there’s decent Wi-Fi and modern plumbing.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, which surprised me given the location. Sure, you’ll hear some street noise during the day – it’s the city center, after all – but once evening settles in, those medieval walls do their job. The rooms have this lived-in elegance, not overly fancy but comfortable in a way that feels authentic to the neighborhood. The staff actually knows the area too, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case. They’ll tell you which tram to take to avoid the tourist crush, or where to grab proper Czech breakfast (hint: not at the hotel, but there’s a place two streets over that opens at 7 AM and serves incredible koláče).

I’ll be honest – it’s not going to blow you away with flashy amenities or over-the-top service. The 7.7 rating feels about right; it’s solidly good without trying to be something it’s not. What it does well is put you right in the middle of historic Prague without the chaos of staying directly on one of the main squares. You get that authentic old-world atmosphere, but you can still walk to everything – Charles Bridge is maybe eight minutes if you don’t get distracted by all the little shops and cafes along the way. And trust me, you will get distracted.

The whole area comes alive differently depending on when you visit. Summer evenings, the streets fill with people heading to dinner or drinks, and there’s this wonderful energy. Winter mornings, especially when there’s a bit of fog, feel almost mystical – like the city’s showing you its medieval bones. Either way, you’re staying somewhere that feels like Prague, not just a hotel that happens to be in Prague.

The location of the apartment was spectacular, the facilities were excellent. The place was fully air-conditioned, all rooms had TV. Below the apartment there was a brewery where you could have breakfast, lunch or dinner. The host was excellent with me.

What could be improved: I think everything was fine, perhaps the only thing I would improve is that the keys are given to you from the moment you check in at the Prague In hotel, the other thing I would improve is the equipment of the apartment, that is: adding a toaster, these are small things but sometimes important.

  • Alex from Hungary – 23 September 2024 (8/10)
