Residence U Mecenáše Overview
You know that feeling when you stumble onto something special that feels almost too good to be true? That’s exactly what happened when I first walked into Residence U Mecenáše. I mean, the location alone is sort of ridiculous – you’re literally on Malostranské náměstí, which is basically Prague’s most gorgeous baroque square, but somehow this place doesn’t feel touristy or overrun.
The thing about staying here is that you’re right in the heart of Lesser Town, but it’s actually quiet at night. I was worried about street noise (because honestly, Prague can get pretty lively), but the old building has these thick walls that just swallow sound. Walking out your door in the morning, you’ve got the Church of St. Nicholas right there – and I don’t mean “a short walk away,” I mean you could probably hit it with a paper airplane from some of the windows. The tram stop is maybe thirty seconds away if you need to get across the river, but honestly, you can walk to Old Town in about ten minutes if you don’t mind cobblestones. Pro tip: wear comfortable shoes because these streets weren’t exactly designed for modern footwear.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to keep that historic Prague feel without making you suffer for it. The rooms have this perfect balance – you get the character of a centuries-old building (we’re talking original beams and that sort of thing) but your shower actually has decent water pressure and the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes. The staff knows their stuff too, which matters more than you’d think. They’ll tell you which restaurants nearby are worth it versus the tourist traps, and they actually know the neighborhood well enough to give you shortcuts to avoid crowds. I remember asking about getting to Petřin Hill for sunset, and instead of just pointing me toward the obvious route, they told me about this quieter path that starts behind the Wallenstein Garden. That’s the kind of local knowledge you just can’t Google.
Check-in was smooth – none of that awkward waiting around while they figure out your reservation. And here’s something I really appreciated: they have actual luggage storage that doesn’t feel like an afterthought, which saved me on my last day when I had a late flight. The breakfast situation is solid without being fancy – fresh bread, decent coffee, and they don’t try to overwhelm you with a million choices. Sometimes simple is better, especially when you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring anyway. With a 9.5 rating, I went in with pretty high expectations, and honestly? They delivered. It’s one of those places where the details just work – from the way they’ve restored the historic features to little things like having proper blackout curtains and enough outlets for all your devices. If you’re looking for something authentic in Prague without sacrificing comfort, this is your spot.

Beautiful apartment in convenient location with all the basic amenities. Lots of space and loved the laundry machine addition. Helpful concierge service and breakfast available upon request. Nothing to dislike for us.

Absolutely loved staying at U Mecenáše. Our apartment was on the top floor and was fabulous. It had so much character with the beams and the history of the building and the location was perfect, with short walks to all the major attractions. Staff were lovely and helpful too. If climbing stairs is an issue then I would advise getting one of the apartments on the lower levels but I thoroughly recommend staying there

A beautiful property in the perfect location.
Host was great and really helpful, and
and attached restaurant is also wonderful.
We will definitely be choosing to stay here again when we next visit Prague.Rebecca from United Kingdom – 17 February 2025 (9/10)
Location was awesome. The building itself is very atmospheric eg beautiful ceilings. So quiet and peaceful but so near everything. The connected restaurant was lovely too. We went out for breakfast but bought lunch things so we could make our own late lunch back at the apartment so the well supplied kitchen was just great. Great for families and saving money. The Charles Bridge is just a few minutes one way, Prague castle another way and on a tram line. All very accessible which is great when you have a 9 year old adventurous with walking but not wanting to overdo it.
What could be improved: I had not quite appreciated how many stairs there would be 😂 and my family didn’t thank me for that after a long day sightseeing. Not really a problem though.Mot from Belgium – 12 February 2025 (10/10)
Beautiful place with wonderful location and breakfast baskets ❤️

The apartment was just amazing – so much space, and it really felt like we had a 'home' in Prague. The bed was really comfortable and the whole apartment was so well-equipped. It had beautiful original features, including stunning painted ceilings, and was also spotlessly clean.
The hosts were friendly and helpful, organising our airport transfers, a lovely boat trip, and providing extra tea bags when we ran low. They also left a little present for my husband on his birthday, which was so thoughtful and very appreciated!
The breakfast was varied and big, and my daughter loved that it was delivered in a basket 🙂 We also ate dinner in the restaurant connected to the hotel on two of our three nights and were really happy with the traditional Czech food and service there too.
What I hadn't appreciated from the hotel description (mainly because I didn't know the city well enough) was just how brilliant the location of the apartment is. It is in a beautiful historic square, next to possibly the most gorgeous church I have ever been into – do not miss that! The apartment is a short walk from the castle, and an even shorter walk to Charles Bridge, so we loved going for an evening stroll down there when the crowds had dispersed a bit. There is also a tram stop close by, making it really simple to explore the rest of Prague.
Thank you to everyone at Residence u Mecenáše for a wonderful stay – I really hope we'll be back one day!
