Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Residence U Černého Orla? The name literally means “At the Black Eagle,” and honestly, that kind of old-world drama fits perfectly with this place. I mean, you’re staying on Mostecka Street – which is basically the main artery between Old Town Square and Prague Castle – so you’re right in the thick of medieval Prague’s most photogenic stretch.
The thing is, most people rush past this building on their way to the castle without realizing there’s actually a hotel tucked inside. It’s one of those converted historical buildings that Prague does so well, where you get genuine 14th-century bones wrapped around modern comfort. The rooms have this interesting mix of exposed beams and updated bathrooms that actually work (trust me, not always a given in Prague’s older hotels). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being on such a busy tourist route – the thick walls definitely earn their keep. You’ll hear the occasional clip-clop of horse carriages during the day, but it’s more charming than disruptive.
The location is honestly ridiculous in the best way. You can stumble out the front door and be at the Charles Bridge in about three minutes, but here’s what the guidebooks won’t tell you – go early morning or late evening to avoid the selfie stick traffic jams. There’s a tiny wine bar called U Fleku just around the corner that locals actually use, and if you’re into that whole atmospheric Prague thing, the narrow side streets around here look like something out of a fairy tale, especially when the street lamps come on. Parking is… well, it’s Prague’s historic center, so forget about that and just use the trams. The staff seemed to really know their stuff about getting around the city, which you appreciate when you’re trying to figure out Prague’s slightly confusing public transport system. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and while the crowds were manageable, I imagine summer gets pretty intense given how central everything is. The 4-star rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but everything works smoothly and the historical character gives it something most chain hotels can’t touch.
Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.

Excellent location next to the Charles Bridge and near Prague castle. I got the biggest apartment unit on the top floor at a relatively decent price compared to my other Prague accommodation. Lots of amenities nearby.
What could be improved: No lift. You have to haul your luggage up the stairs.Marian from Romania – 29 March 2025 (10/10)
From the moment we entered the hotel, we had a wonderful experience. The reception staff were consistently helpful, assisting us with everything from booking museum tickets to printing boarding passes. The breakfast was abundant and delicious; we highly recommend the homemade apple pie. The room was always clean, and due to its proximity to the tourist centre, it was surprisingly quiet, thanks to the thick walls.

The Residence U Černého Orla exceeded my expectations. The location is simply perfect, just a few steps from the iconic Charles Bridge, making it easy to explore the historic center. The building, full of charm and history, provides a unique atmosphere, with elegantly decorated rooms highlighting baroque details and a cozy environment.
The breakfast was one of the highlights — varied, creative, and served with great care. The team is extremely attentive and helpful, making the stay even more enjoyable.
Finally, the price-quality ratio is excellent. I felt that the experience offered was well worth every euro spent. I highly recommend this residence to anyone looking for comfort, historic charm, and impeccable service in the heart of Prague.
What could be improved: As for less positive aspects, I would mention the lack of a full-length mirror in the room and the absence of an elevator, which is understandable given the historic nature of the building. However, these points were not very relevant and did not affect the overall experience.Leonie from Ireland – 6 March 2025 (10/10)
This is a fantastic place to stay, just by Charles Bridge & many lovely restaurants nearby. The accommodation was excellent – really comfortable bed, large bedroom with everything we needed & so quiet even though in the heart of Prague. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. Staff were fantastic, Lucas on our arrival was outstanding – so welcoming & helpful. All areas were spotlessly clean- I would definitely recommend to stay here if visiting Prague. We stayed 3 nights.

The hotel is located a few steps from the Charles Bridge and Malostranske Square. The staff were polite, helpful. A room was spacious and clean, furnished with a good quality furniture, a double bed was comfortable.
