Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first turned onto Nerudova Street looking for the Red Lion Hotel, I almost walked right past it. The entrance is tucked into this gorgeous baroque building that looks more like a private residence than a hotel, which honestly makes it feel way more special once you’re inside. You’re literally staying on one of Prague’s most historic cobblestone streets, the same route tourists huff and puff up to reach Prague Castle (and trust me, you’ll appreciate not having to schlep your luggage up that hill from some hotel down in New Town).

The thing about staying here is that you get this weird mix of feeling like you’re in someone’s elegant Prague apartment while still having proper hotel service. The rooms have these tall windows that actually open – remember when hotel windows used to do that? – and if you’re facing the street, you’ll hear the clip-clop of horse carriages in the morning mixed with tour groups chattering in about six different languages. It’s not exactly quiet, but it’s the kind of ambient Prague noise that somehow becomes soothing after a day or two. The staff really knows their stuff too, which matters when you’re dealing with the maze that is Lesser Town. They’ll tell you which entrance to use for the castle (there are like four of them) and – this is key – where to find a decent coffee that isn’t tourist-trap pricing.

What really sold me on this place, though, is how it sits right in the sweet spot between being central and being livable. I mean, you can stumble back from dinner in Old Town in about fifteen minutes, but you’re also around the corner from that little park behind the Wallenstein Garden where locals actually hang out. The hotel itself feels properly Czech rather than some international chain trying to be Czech – the breakfast has actual bread worth eating, and the whole vibe is more “cultured Prague resident” than “tourist doing Prague in three days.” Sure, it’s not cheap, but honestly? When you’re paying Prague prices anyway, the extra euros for staying somewhere with this much character and an 8.9 rating that actually feels earned – well, it’s worth not ending up in some soulless place where you spend your whole trip trying to figure out where the hell you are.

Apartments in Prague provide travelers with an authentic local experience, allowing them to shop at traditional markets and cook with fresh ingredients from the renowned Czech culinary traditions.

Clean room, excellent location, goood breakfast, helpful staff. Will definitely come again!

  • Stephen from United Kingdom – 31 March 2025 (9/10)

Great location, beautifully clean and superb breakfast. This was an exceptional place to stay, and full of character.
We stayed with friends (we were two couples) and booked the family suite on the top floor. We each had our own bedrooms, and the bathroom was accessible through a small landing between our rooms. Only downside is it is a bit of a hike up several flights of stairs to the family suite. But we knew that from the hotel info when booking.

  • Joshua from United States – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location. Quiet but near enough to everything. Very close to the castle. Walkable. Our room was large and comfortable.

What could be improved: A shower curtain would help contain the water when showering.

  • Olga from Norway – 7 February 2025 (9/10)

I liled everything. The location was great, breakfast had a lot of choices. The rooms were very clean and warm. I loved the interiors, it looked very thought through. Personell was very nice too.

What could be improved: I loved it all!

  • Kasal-slavik from Germany – 27 January 2025 (9/10)

Very unique, great location, good breakfast

What could be improved: The ventilation on the toilet was very loud.

  • Monika from Slovakia – 25 January 2025 (9/10)

Great location, very close to the castle and Petrin Tower, clean room, comfortable beds, great breakfast with very good choice for everybody. Nice view from the window.

What could be improved: Stairs in the room.

  • Marko from Serbia – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

Maintaining hygiene at a high level, as well as the location of the hotel

What could be improved: The impossibility of parking reservation, as well as a poor selection of vegan food in the breakfast

  • Trnic from Serbia – 24 November 2024 (9/10)

We liked the location, the bed, sheets were amazing! Pls tell us where did u get the sheets, the softest thing i ever felt. Peace and quiet was astonishing. Thank you.

What could be improved: That we had to leave.

  • Michal from United Kingdom – 5 November 2024 (8/10)

The location in Old Town near Hrad is a real advantage.
We liked the good breakfast, friendly staff, comfy beds, and size of the rooms.

What could be improved: Our apartment was located on the top of the stairs, 4th floor, and getting up and down with luggage was a bit of an issue! Apart from that, all was fine 🙂

  • Lesley from Australia – 17 October 2024 (8/10)

Love the location at the foot of the castle. A picturesque quiet area.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike. But I mention that there are steep stairs and no lift but we knew that before and these traditional houses often can’t have lifts.
