Red & Blue Design Hotel Prague Overview

You know what struck me first about the Red & Blue Design Hotel? It’s actually tucked away on Holeckova Street in a way that feels deliberately hidden – like someone wanted to create this cool design haven but didn’t need to shout about it from the main tourist drags. I mean, you’re still in Smíchov, which puts you maybe fifteen minutes from Old Town by tram, but there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that doesn’t have tour groups constantly flowing past your windows.

The design thing isn’t just marketing speak here – they really committed to this red and blue concept, though honestly, it works way better than it sounds on paper. The lobby has these bold color blocks that could’ve gone totally wrong, but instead it feels sort of playfully sophisticated. My room had this deep blue accent wall that somehow made the space feel bigger, not smaller, and the red touches (lampshades, chair cushions) actually helped tie everything together instead of making it look like a patriotic fever dream. The bathrooms are genuinely nice – good water pressure, heated floors that you’ll appreciate in Prague’s chillier months, and they stock decent toiletries. Small thing, but the lighting actually makes sense for getting ready, which you’d be surprised how many “design” hotels mess up.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the staff knows their neighborhood. When I asked about dinner spots, they didn’t just rattle off the obvious tourist places in Malá Strana. Instead, they pointed me toward this excellent wine bar about three blocks away that I never would’ve found otherwise, plus a proper Czech pub that locals actually use. The breakfast isn’t huge, but it’s thoughtfully done – good coffee (not that bitter hotel stuff), fresh pastries from somewhere nearby, and they’ll make you eggs however you want them. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but there’s a garage about two minutes’ walk away that won’t completely destroy your budget. The tram stop is literally right there, and the 12 line gets you pretty much anywhere you need to go without the hassle of driving in Prague’s old city center. I stayed during shoulder season in October, so I can’t speak to summer crowds, but the whole area felt authentically lived-in rather than purely touristy. That 8.4 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but it nails what it’s going for: smart design, solid comfort, and a location that gives you easy access without feeling like you’re camping out in a postcard.
