Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Pure White on Koubkova Street – the name sounds a bit clinical, doesn’t it? But this 4-star spot in Prague’s Vinohrady district completely won me over. You know what struck me first? The actual building has this gorgeous early 20th-century facade that they’ve restored beautifully, and it sits on one of those tree-lined streets that feels properly residential rather than touristy. I mean, you’re about a 15-minute tram ride from Old Town Square, but you’re actually living where Praguers live, which is pretty cool.

The interior design lives up to the name – there’s a lot of white and clean lines, but it’s done in a way that feels warm rather than sterile. Actually, the rooms have these interesting touches like exposed brick accent walls and original hardwood floors that keep things from feeling too minimalist. What I really appreciated was the attention to practical details that most hotels mess up. The shower pressure is fantastic (you’d be surprised how rare that is in Prague), the beds are legitimately comfortable, and – this might sound weird – but the curtains actually block out light properly. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, so you’ll sleep well, though you might hear the occasional tram rumbling down Korunní if you’re a super light sleeper.

Here’s the thing about staying in Vinohrady that the guidebooks don’t really tell you – you’re surrounded by some of the best local restaurants and wine bars in the city. There’s this fantastic Vietnamese place called Loving Hut just two blocks away (Prague has an amazing Vietnamese food scene), and if you walk five minutes toward Náměstí Míru, you’ll hit Riegrovy sady, which is where locals go to drink beer and watch the sunset over the city. The hotel staff actually knows this stuff and will point you toward places that aren’t just tourist traps. I had a great conversation with the front desk manager about where to find proper Czech wine – apparently there’s a natural wine bar called Vinograf about ten minutes away that’s absolutely worth the walk. The 9-point rating makes total sense when you consider that you’re getting genuine local experience along with solid amenities. Sure, it’s not going to have a rooftop pool or a fancy spa, but if you want to experience Prague like someone who actually lives here rather than just checking monuments off a list, Pure White gets it right.
