Prague Gate Apartments Overview

You know what struck me first about Prague Gate Apartments? The name actually makes sense – you’re literally staying where one of Prague’s old city gates used to be, and honestly, the location feels like you’ve found this perfect sweet spot that most tourists completely miss. Za Poříčskou bránou is this quiet street that runs parallel to all the chaos of Wenceslas Square, but you’re tucked away from the crowds stumbling back from beer halls at 2 AM. I mean, you can walk to Old Town in maybe fifteen minutes, but when you want to escape the selfie sticks and overpriced trdelník stands, you’ve got this surprisingly peaceful neighborhood to retreat to.

The apartments themselves feel like someone actually thought about how people live, not just where they crash for a night. I’m talking proper kitchens with full-size fridges (you’ll appreciate this when you discover the amazing little grocery store on Hybernská), decent-sized living areas where you can spread out your day pack without tripping over everything, and – this might sound weird but bear with me – really solid wifi that doesn’t die when everyone in the building tries to video call home after dinner. The furnishings are modern without being sterile, sort of that Scandinavian-meets-Central-European vibe that works surprisingly well. What I really loved was the attention to small details – proper blackout curtains (essential if you’re dealing with jet lag), good water pressure in the showers, and enough electrical outlets that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and using the coffee maker.

Here’s the thing about this area that locals know but guidebooks rarely mention – you’re about a five-minute walk from Náměstí Míru metro station, which puts you on the green line straight to the castle district without any transfers. But more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of neighborhood restaurants and wine bars where Czech families actually eat, not just the tourist traps serving goulash to Germans in hiking boots. There’s this incredible Vietnamese place around the corner (Prague’s Vietnamese food scene is unexpectedly fantastic), and the little park nearby is perfect for morning runs if you’re trying to work off all the excellent Czech beer. The only minor downside I’d mention is that check-in can be a bit of a process – it’s apartment-style, so you’ll need to coordinate timing rather than just rolling up to a front desk whenever. But honestly, once you’re settled in, the extra space and the feeling of actually living in Prague for a few days rather than just visiting makes it totally worth the slight extra effort.

We really enjoyed our stay at the apartment, everything was as described and can be seen in the pictures. The apartment is at a great location and public transportation is easily accessible. There are a couple of nice places to eat nearby too.

What could be improved: The host was an hour or so late with meeting us and giving us the keys. To be frank, we didn't send him a message beforehand as he requested, but we marked when we're coming on Booking. Everything else was perfect.
