Honestly, when I first pulled up to Penzion Koráb on Krejčího street, I wasn’t sure what to expect – the building sits in this quiet residential pocket of Prague 8 that most tourists never see. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly why I loved it. While everyone else is fighting crowds around Wenceslas Square, you’re tucked away in an actual neighborhood where locals walk their dogs and grab coffee at the corner café.

The pension itself feels like staying at your Czech aunt’s house, if your aunt happened to have really good taste and understood what travelers actually need. The rooms are simple but thoughtfully done – none of that generic hotel furniture that screams “budget accommodation.” I mean, sure, it’s a 3-star place so don’t expect marble bathrooms, but everything works properly and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. The owner (I think his name was Pavel?) checked me in personally and actually took time to mark up a map with his recommendations, including this little pub around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. You can tell he genuinely cares about the place rather than just collecting booking fees.

What really won me over was the location – it’s one of those spots that feels like a local secret. You’re about a 15-minute tram ride to the city center, which sounds far until you realize you’re escaping all the tourist chaos while still being perfectly connected. The Palmovka metro station is close enough for easy access, and honestly, I started looking forward to those morning tram rides through residential Prague. There’s something nice about seeing how the city actually lives and breathes beyond the postcard views. Plus, parking was never an issue here – try finding a spot in Old Town for less than 30 euros a day. The neighborhood gets properly quiet at night too, which was perfect after long days of sightseeing. I slept better here than at fancier hotels where you hear every drunk tourist stumbling down cobblestone streets at 2 AM. The breakfast was simple but fresh, and they didn’t try to charge you extra for decent coffee. Sometimes the little things matter most when you’re traveling.
