Pension Akat Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Pension Akat on Nádražní street, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this slightly industrial-looking area near Prague’s main train station, and from the outside it looks pretty no-frills. But you know what? Sometimes those places end up surprising you, and this one actually did.

The thing about staying here is that you’re literally a five-minute walk from Hlavní nádraží – which sounds terrible if you’re imagining constant train noise, but it’s actually not bad at all. The pension sits just far enough back that you don’t get the full chaos of the station area, but close enough that catching early trains or late arrivals is ridiculously easy. I mean, when I stayed there last spring, I could roll out of bed at 7:30 and still make an 8 AM departure to Brno without breaking a sweat. The neighborhood itself is sort of transitional – not quite the tourist center, not quite residential – but there’s this decent little Vietnamese place around the corner that does incredible pho, and a non-touristy pub called U Fleku’s younger cousin (okay, it’s not actually related, but you get the vibe).

What really won me over was how genuinely friendly the staff is – like, actually helpful, not just going through the motions. The owner, this Czech guy who speaks surprisingly good English, gave me this whole rundown of which tram lines to avoid during rush hour and where to get proper bread in the morning. The rooms themselves are clean and honestly bigger than I expected for the price point. Nothing fancy – we’re talking basic furniture, small TV, tiny bathroom – but everything works, the beds are actually comfortable, and there’s this quirky attention to detail, like how they leave these little wrapped cookies on your pillow that taste homemade. The WiFi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to work or upload photos without wanting to throw your laptop out the window. Only real downside is that some rooms face the street, and while it’s not train-level noise, you do get some traffic sounds in the morning. Ask for a back-facing room if you’re a light sleeper.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t a place you’d choose if you want to be in the thick of Old Town or right by the castle. But if you’re someone who appreciates good value, doesn’t mind a short tram ride to the main sights, and likes staying somewhere that feels more authentic than those cookie-cutter hotels near Wenceslas Square, Pension Akat hits the sweet spot. It’s got that family-run feeling where they remember your name and actually care if you’re having a good time in Prague. For what you pay, especially compared to what you’d spend closer to the tourist zones, it’s honestly a pretty solid choice.

Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.

Reviews of Pension Akat

  • Very good – Librada from Poland – 30 June 2025 (8/10)

Excellent, comfortable, and well-priced! Highly recommended 🇦🇷💓

  • Superb – Negrín from Spain – 29 June 2025 (9/10)

Very spacious room and overall very nice.

The room was very well equipped with: a fridge, loads of towels, a bottle opener, a lot of storage space. Moreover, there are some common areas which can be used for free. For instance, a kitchenette (with microwave and a kettle) or an iron.

The rooms are quite stylish and it is overall a very nice location to be at, as it is in front of the train station and a lot of trams pass by.

I would also like to mention that the hotel leaves a orange notebook in your room which gives you very useful information. It is not only about the hotel itself, but also on how to move around the city, things to see…

What could be improved: Even though the rooms are great, it is very easy to hear what is happening nearby and you can hear when people pass through the corridor.

The check-in was slightly messy (although it might have been my fault). If you arrive late, you get a code for your room which you have to type in. I wasn't able and it took me a while to find the receptionist. But I finally managed.

If you have to do the code thingy follow these steps.
    1. When you arrive there is a green door under a sign which says pension akat. On the right hand side, there is a keypad where you have to introduce your code. Once you do this the door will open

    2. When you get inside, you will find a patio and a terrace. Walk into the restaurant's terrace and walk over the mat (you will have to turn right to where it says reception). Once here, you will have to do the code thingy again.

    3. Finally (and the trickiest bit for me), walk to your room and once you are in front of the door you will see that on the handle there is a small black square where you pass your card to enter. If you are going to enter with the code, just press on the black square where you are supposed to scan your card and some numbers will light up. Enter your code and you are done.

  • Superb – Hands from United Kingdom – 21 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location outside the city center but with exceptional public transport there is a metro 2 minutes from the room definitely will be back next time in Prague

  • Very good – Ryan from Ireland – 12 January 2025 (8/10)

Stayed 2 nights, friendly staff, good location and good value for money. Bathroom was great and would recommend.
    Tram/train stop right outside too

What could be improved: The only negative would be that the beds weren’t 10/10 but would stay again.

  • Very good for short stay – Witold from Poland – 6 January 2025 (8/10)

Nice and helpful reception. Clean cozy rooms, good location.

  • The Christmas season in gorgeous Prague – Najma from Poland – 16 December 2024 (7/10)

The room was very big and quite comfortable

What could be improved: Nothing really

  • Very good – Arjudedjet from Czech Republic – 12 December 2024 (8/10)

Location is perfect for me as it is close to metro, tram and train, it is also very close to my work. Shared facilities are not optimal, but what can you do, price is right.

  • Good – Nilakshi from Germany – 17 September 2024 (9/10)

    Easy to reach, helpful staff.

  • Good place nearly perfect – Luis from United Kingdom – 12 July 2024 (8/10)

    Everything was good

What could be improved: I can't understand it's a budget place (really good) but can be perfect if the can't install a air conditioning system for the hot summer in Prague

  • Good – Ravi from India – 17 June 2024 (7/10)

Room was good. More than expected.
