Pension Akat

Capital City of Prague, Czechia
Nádražní 851/42, Prague, 15000, Czech Republic

Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Pension Akat on Nádražní street, you immediately get that feeling of stumbling onto something locals know about but tourists haven’t quite discovered yet. It’s one of those three-star places that doesn’t try to be fancy — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. The building has character, you know what I mean? Not the sterile hotel chain vibe, but actual personality that comes from being family-run for years. The attention to detail in the decor reflects the owners’ passion for hospitality.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about staying in Prague — location is everything, and this place nails it. You’re close enough to the action without being stuck in the tourist chaos of Old Town. I mean, couples consistently rate the location 8.5 out of 10, and after staying here, I totally get why. The tram connections are solid, and you can actually walk to most places you’d want to see. Plus, there’s parking available, which — trust me — is like finding gold in this city. The neighborhood offers authentic local experiences.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable, nothing groundbreaking but everything you actually need. The beds are decent (no backaches the next morning), and the windows open properly — something you don’t always get in older Prague buildings. What I appreciated most was the attention to small details: good lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and blackout curtains that actually work. The bathroom was compact but functional, with water pressure that didn’t disappoint. Modern amenities blend seamlessly with the building’s historic charm.

Daily Life & Amenities

Breakfast happens in a cozy little dining area that feels more like someone’s home than a hotel restaurant. The spread isn’t elaborate, but it covers the basics well — fresh bread, local cheeses, decent coffee that’ll get you going for the day. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, offering tips about which tram to take or where to find good goulash nearby. They’re not hovering, but they’re there when you need them, which strikes the right balance. This personal touch distinguishes the pension from larger hotel chains.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back to Pension Akat isn’t any single wow factor — it’s the combination of being well-located, reasonably priced, and run by people who actually care. Recent guests consistently rate it highly (8.6 for location), and after spending time here, that makes perfect sense. You’re getting genuine Prague hospitality without the tourist markup, staying in a neighborhood that feels real rather than manufactured for visitors. It’s the kind of place where you can imagine yourself living, not just passing through — and honestly, that’s pretty rare these days. The pension represents authentic Central European hospitality at its finest.

Visitors often choose Prague apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent Bohemian capital.

Superb

Very spacious room and overall very nice.

The room was very well equipped with: a fridge, loads of towels, a bottle opener, a lot of storage space. Moreover, there are some common areas which can be used for free. For instance, a kitchenette (with microwave and a kettle) or an iron.

The rooms are quite stylish and it is overall a very nice location to be at, as it is in front of the train station and a lot of trams pass by.

I would also like to mention that the hotel leaves a orange notebook in your room which gives you very useful information. It is not only about the hotel itself, but also on how to move around the city, things to see...

What could be improved: Even though the rooms are great, it is very easy to hear what is happening nearby and you can hear when people pass through the corridor.

The check-in was slightly messy (although it might have been my fault). If you arrive late, you get a code for your room which you have to type in. I wasn't able and it took me a while to find the receptionist. But I finally managed.

If you have to do the code thingy follow these steps.
1. When you arrive there is a green door under a sign which says pension akat. On the right hand side, there is a keypad where you have to introduce your code. Once you do this the door will open

2. When you get inside, you will find a patio and a terrace. Walk into the restaurant's terrace and walk over the mat (you will have to turn right to where it says reception). Once here, you will have to do the code thingy again.

3. Finally (and the trickiest bit for me), walk to your room and once you are in front of the door you will see that on the handle there is a small black square where you pass your card to enter. If you are going to enter with the code, just press on the black square where you are supposed to scan your card and some numbers will light up. Enter your code and you are done.
