Palace Apartment by Main Station – President Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Palace Apartment by Main Station – President? The name makes it sound way more formal than it actually is. I mean, yes, it’s definitely upscale with that 4-star feel, but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about staying in what’s basically a really well-done apartment right in the heart of Prague.
The location on Opletalova is honestly perfect if you’re someone who likes to just walk everywhere. You’re literally steps from Wenceslas Square – and I’m talking actual steps, not that “walking distance” nonsense hotels usually throw around. The main train station is right there too, which was clutch when I had to catch an early train to Vienna. But here’s the thing nobody tells you: being this central in Prague doesn’t mean you’re dealing with crazy noise all night. The building itself has this solid, old-world construction that keeps things surprisingly quiet once you’re inside. Well, except for the occasional tram rumbling by, but honestly that becomes sort of charming background noise after a day or two.
What really sold me on this place was how it manages to feel like you’re living in Prague rather than just visiting. The apartment setup means you’ve got actual space to spread out – none of that cramped hotel room situation where you’re living out of a suitcase. There’s a proper kitchen if you want to grab some ingredients from the markets (the one near Náměstí Míru is worth the short trip), though with all the incredible restaurants within walking distance, I barely used it. The whole President suite thing isn’t just marketing fluff either – the space genuinely feels generous and well thought out. They’ve clearly put effort into making it feel residential while keeping all the hotel-level service touches you’d want.
I’ve stayed in a bunch of places around this part of Prague, and the 8.2 rating feels about right – maybe even a bit conservative. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward spots that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. When I mentioned wanting good coffee, they directed me to this little place on Vinohrady that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no weird surprise fees, and they’re pretty flexible about timing if you need to store bags or whatever. The only minor thing is that Prague’s cobblestone streets can be a bit rough if you’re dragging heavy luggage, but that’s more of a Prague thing than a hotel thing. Overall, it’s one of those places where you end up feeling like you made a smart choice rather than just booking whatever was available.
Prague hotels range from charming boutique properties in the historic Old Town Square to elegant castle-view hotels and modern accommodations near Wenceslas Square.
