Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Old Town Aparthotel Michalska, I almost walked right past it. The entrance is pretty understated on this narrow cobblestone street, which is actually perfect because you’re literally steps from Prague Castle without dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drags. Michalská street itself is one of those authentic Old Town lanes that tourists usually rush through on their way to the big sights, but staying here means you get to experience it when it’s quiet – early mornings when the light hits those medieval buildings just right, or late evenings when the day-trippers have all headed back to their buses.

The aparthotel thing works really well here, honestly. You get proper apartment-style rooms with little kitchenettes (which, let’s face it, is a lifesaver when you want morning coffee without paying €4 at a tourist café), but you still get hotel services when you need them. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – I mean really knows it, not just the standard “turn left at McDonald’s” directions. They pointed me toward this tiny wine bar on Nerudova street that I never would’ve found otherwise, and gave me the real story about which entrance to use for Prague Castle to avoid the worst crowds. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – nothing groundbreaking, but comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, and those thick walls that Old Town buildings have, so you’re not hearing every footstep from the cobblestones below.

What really sold me on this place though is the location without the location penalty, if that makes sense. You’re close enough to walk to Charles Bridge in about eight minutes, but you’re not on one of those streets where tour groups march past your window at 7 AM. Wenceslas Square is a quick stroll when you want that energy, but Michalská feels more… residential, I guess? You’ll see actual Prague residents heading to work or walking their dogs, not just clusters of people with cameras. The 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything well and the location really is something special. Just know that if you’re mobility-challenged, these old streets can be tricky with luggage, and don’t expect a massive lobby or concierge desk. This is Prague doing what Prague does best – history you can actually live in, not just look at.
