Occidental Praha

Prague, Czech Republic
Na Strži 32, Prague, 14000, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what? The Occidental Praha surprised me, and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s tucked away on Na Strži street in what locals call Nusle – honestly, I’d never heard of this neighborhood before booking, but it turned out to be one of those happy accidents that make travel interesting. The area feels properly residential, like actual Czechs live here, which is refreshing when you’re tired of bumping into tour groups every five minutes.

The hotel itself has this understated thing going on that I really appreciated. Nothing flashy or trying too hard, just solid four-star comfort that actually delivers on its promises. My room was spacious enough that I wasn’t playing Tetris with my luggage, and the bathroom – well, let’s just say I’ve stayed at supposedly fancier places where the shower was basically a closet with a drain. Here, you can actually turn around without elbowing the wall. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful too, not just going through the motions. They gave me actual directions to places, not just “turn left and walk” but proper landmarks and which tram stops to use.

What really sold me on this place was how it sits in the city. Sure, you’re not stumbling out the front door onto Wenceslas Square, but honestly? That’s a feature, not a bug. The tram connections are fantastic – you can get to Old Town in about fifteen minutes, and there’s something satisfying about riding the tram back “home” after a long day of sightseeing. Plus, there’s a proper Czech pub just down the street where locals actually drink (I mean locals locals, not the “local experience” kind), and a small grocery store that saved me from hotel minibar prices more than once. The neighborhood gets quiet at night, which means you’ll actually sleep instead of listening to drunk tourists singing under your window at 2 AM. During the day, you get these glimpses of regular Prague life – people walking their dogs, kids heading to school, that sort of thing that reminds you there’s a real city beyond the tourist bubble. I’d definitely stay here again, especially knowing what I know now about getting around from this spot.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Prague at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous cultural festivals and outdoor concerts.

What could be improved: The bath tub is too high for me to get in and out.

The bed was really large and comfortable. The hotel was quiet and clean. Excellent breakfast and good cappuccino!

What could be improved: It is a bit aside from the city center and the metro station, but the view is nice.
