National Museum Apartment by Ruterra Overview
So I stayed at this place called National Museum Apartment by Ruterra, and honestly? It’s one of those spots that grows on you. The building sits right on Balbinova street, which – if you don’t know Prague – is basically walking distance from Wenceslas Square but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant tourist chaos. I mean, you can literally see the National Museum from some of the windows, hence the name I guess.
The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel, which is either perfect or slightly weird depending on what you’re after. It’s got that eastern European charm where everything’s solid and well-built but not exactly Instagram-ready – think functional kitchen with mismatched dishes, comfortable beds that aren’t brand new but definitely clean, and bathrooms with those shower heads that spray everywhere except where you want them to. The WiFi actually works well though, which honestly surprised me since some Prague apartments still act like it’s 2005. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Balbinova isn’t a main drag, so you’re not hearing trams clattering by at 6 AM like you would closer to the city center.
Location-wise, this is where it gets interesting. You’re about a ten-minute walk to the main tourist stuff – the museum, the top of Wenceslas Square, that whole area – but you’re also right near where actual Czechs live and work. There’s this little grocery store around the corner where the cashier definitely judged my attempt at saying “děkuji,” and a few blocks down there’s a pub that serves proper goulash without the tourist markup. The building doesn’t have an elevator (well, it might, but it looked terrifying so I took the stairs), so just know you’ll be getting some exercise if you’re on an upper floor. Parking is… well, it’s Prague, so good luck with that. But the tram connections are solid – you can get pretty much anywhere in the city without too much hassle. Check-in was smooth enough, though the person helping me spoke better English than I expected, which made me feel slightly guilty about not learning more Czech beforehand. Overall, it’s the kind of place that works really well if you want to feel less like a tourist and more like someone who just happens to be visiting Prague for a while.

Reviews of National Museum Apartment by Ruterra
would recommend and come back – Sam from Australia – 15 June 2023 (8/10)
Great location and was amazing to be able to do a wash. Only thing missing was a drying rack, and I had to fix the router myself to get internet but perfect otherwise.
What could be improved: Drying rackOK overall – Andrés from Argentina – 24 January 2025 (7/10)
The location was excellent
What could be improved: Wifi worked kind of slowConvenient and cheap. – Filip from Poland – 11 November 2024 (8/10)
The apartament is located very close to the old town, there is plenty of café, beer houses and shops in its vicinity.
What could be improved: Apatament itself begs for little renovation and deep cleaning. Its not terrible by any means but here and there you can see signs of wear.Minimum expectations met – Kevin from Ireland – 30 October 2024 (6/10)
What could be improved: Enquired about early check-in but no effort was made to accommodate this
Good – Juraj from United Kingdom – 25 July 2024 (7/10)
Location is great,5 minutes walk to Wenceslas square ,lots of cafes and restaurants nearby, it's very quiet in the flat.Communication was clear and prompt, stuff was helpful.
What could be improved: We have booked for 2+2 but it's not suitable for the family of 4.Its 1 double bed and 1 single bed .It met our expectations for a short-term stay. – Ozan from Turkey – 4 July 2024 (7/10)
The location of the house is excellent, it is very close to public transportation, the kitchen utensils are adequate.
What could be improved: The internet was down, we couldn't watch TV, and there was noise because of construction on the street. The refrigerator did not cool enough.Location is great, clean, worth the money. – Tkaasik from Estonia – 11 November 2023 (7/10)
Quick and detailed info about arrival and handing over the keys etc.
What could be improved: Pillows were quite badGood – Constantin from Romania – 2 December 2022 (7/10)
The apartment is cozy and location is ok (you can easily go in the city center by foot).
What could be improved: There is no door between rooms and this is not observed in the photos.Comfortable stay – Nuria from Argentina – 5 November 2024 (9/10)
Everything was great. The apartment is small but spacious and has everything you may need and all the kitchen appliances, icluding a small dishwasher.
What could be improved: They make you pick up the key somewhere else. It's not a super long walk maybe 15' ~ 20' but it's really annoying when you are tired from a flight and need to carry your bags along.
The window looked out onto an air shaft.Exceptional – David from Serbia – 25 September 2023 (10/10)
very clean, in center, everything is perfect
