Maximilian Hotel Overview

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Prague hotels, and the Maximilian on Haštalská Street is honestly one of those places that gets it right without trying too hard. You know how some boutique hotels feel like they’re performing for Instagram? This isn’t that. It’s tucked into this gorgeous 14th-century building in Old Town – and I mean actually tucked, not just “conveniently located” like every hotel claims.

The thing about Haštalská is that it’s close enough to everything (seriously, you can walk to Charles Bridge in about eight minutes), but it’s on this quieter cobblestone street where you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos at all hours. I actually discovered it because I got lost looking for that little wine bar Vinograf – which, by the way, is literally around the corner if you’re into natural wines. The building itself has this understated elegance thing going on… thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly quiet, even though you’re basically in the heart of everything.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to small stuff that matters. Like, the rooms aren’t huge – this is a historic building, so don’t expect American-style space – but they’re designed smart. Good lighting for actually reading, proper hangers (not those weird hotel ones you can’t remove), and honestly the best shower pressure I’ve had in Prague. The breakfast situation is solid too, though it gets busy around 8:30 when all the business travelers descend. Pro tip: go early or after 9:30 and you’ll actually get to enjoy it. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood – I mean really knows it, not just the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this incredible little café on Dlouhá Street that I never would have found otherwise.

The 9.3 rating makes sense when you add it all up. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Prague, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that authentic old-world Prague experience. You’re staying in a piece of actual history here – the building dates back to when Charles IV was running things – but with modern comforts that actually work. No quirky old radiators that clank all night or vintage elevators that may or may not function. Just a really well-run place that happens to be housed in something genuinely special. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re experiencing Prague rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.

  • Celeste from Australia – 30 March 2025 (10/10)

The room was spacious, comfortable and super clean.
The staff were very helpful and welcoming.
The hotel was an easy walk to everywhere we wanted to go, and has a lot of great restaurants and cafes close by.

  • Tiffany from United States – 28 March 2025 (9/10)

    The property and its location

  • Anna from Austria – 27 March 2025 (9/10)

Perfect location to explore the city walking. Nice and quiet rooms. Modern interior. Friendly and helpful stuff. Bar/restaurant with very good food and drinks.

What could be improved: Bar couldn’t provide us with a cold platter of cheese and ham (that was on display in the bar) and nuts in the afternoon, because the ‘kitchen was closed’.
Would expect a bit more flexibility in a four stars hotel.

  • Mariana from United Kingdom – 25 March 2025 (10/10)

Very close to all the main attractions in the old town but also in a beautiful quiet place, away from the hordes of tourists. Perfect mix between practical and design hotel!!

  • Emma from United Kingdom – 21 March 2025 (10/10)

    Boutique style and quirky!
Had everything required in our room.

  • Yariv from Israel – 17 March 2025 (10/10)

    Fully recommended!!!
The design of the room was spectacular, comfy bed and really good shower.
Perfect location that close to everything but still quiet for good night sleep.
But the thing that got us is the staff, they recommended us for good local restaurants and every recommend was 10 from 10.
    We will surly come back!

  • Justine from United Kingdom – 11 March 2025 (9/10)

Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Beautifully decorated room. Hotel is in perfect location to explore on foot, close to everything but far enough away to be nice and quiet.

  • Valentina from Mexico – 10 February 2025 (10/10)

I had a ski accident before my arrival, so my mobility was very limited. The hotel staff went above and beyond to provide me with an accessible room. They are the kindest! The hotel smells amazing, it’s beautifully designed, and the rooms are stunning. The location is incredible, surrounded by restaurants, bars, and amazing places. I can’t wait to come back!
