The location is what got me first. Lazenska street sits right in that sweet spot where Malá Strana starts to feel residential but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. I mean, you can literally walk to Charles Bridge in about three minutes – I timed it because I’m weird like that – but you’re tucked away from the crowds that make Nerudova Street feel like a theme park sometimes. The building itself has that Prague thing going on where it looks properly historical from the outside but doesn’t feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. Actually, the whole block has this quiet dignity to it, you know? Stone facades that have seen some stuff, but well-maintained courtyards where you might catch neighbors having coffee in the morning.

What really won me over though was how they handle the details. The rooms – well, mine faced the courtyard, which I’d recommend because street-facing can get a bit lively when groups head home from the beer gardens – felt thoughtfully put together rather than just decorated. Good lighting where you need it (finally, somewhere that gets bedside reading lamps right), and the bathroom actually had space to spread out your stuff. The floors had this subtle warmth to them, probably heated, which you’ll appreciate if you visit between October and April. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no trying to upsell me on breakfast packages or spa treatments, just genuine recommendations about avoiding the tourist traps on Wenceslas Square.

Here’s the thing about staying in this part of Prague: you’re close enough to Petřin Hill that an evening walk up there becomes tempting rather than a whole expedition, and there’s something magical about having the castle looming above you but not feeling like you’re performing tourism every time you step outside. The neighborhood has actual bakeries where locals go, not just places selling overpriced trdelník to visitors. I found myself walking different routes each day – down to Kampa Island when I wanted quiet, or cutting through the little streets toward Národní when I needed to remember why I love this city. The residence sits perfectly in all of that, sort of like having a really good base camp. You settle in, then venture out knowing you’ve got somewhere genuinely comfortable to return to, not just a place to crash.
