Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of Prague hotels over the years, and Karl BY ZEITRAUM actually surprised me – in the best way possible. You know how sometimes a place looks amazing online but then you walk in and it’s just… trying too hard? This isn’t that. The moment you step into the lobby, there’s this understated elegance that feels genuinely Czech rather than some international chain’s idea of what European luxury should be.

The location on Krakovská is honestly perfect if you know Prague at all. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Wenceslas Square, but here’s the thing – you’re just far enough off the main tourist drag that you don’t have drunk bachelor parties stumbling past your window at 2 AM. I mean, you’ll still hear some city noise (it’s Prague, not a monastery), but it’s the good kind – trams rumbling by, people chatting as they head to dinner. The building itself has this beautiful Art Nouveau facade that somehow survived decades of communist-era “improvements,” and the designers clearly understood what they were working with. Inside, they’ve done this really smart thing where they’ve kept the original architectural details but added these clean, modern touches that don’t feel cold or sterile.

What really got me was the attention to small stuff that most hotels completely miss. The lighting in the rooms actually works for reading – revolutionary concept, I know. The bathroom tiles have this subtle texture that keeps you from slipping (learned that one the hard way at other places). And honestly, the bed situation is just fantastic – not too soft, not like sleeping on concrete, just right. The breakfast setup is refreshingly honest too – they’re not trying to pretend they’re serving some massive international buffet, but what they do have is really well-sourced local stuff. Plus, the staff actually seems to enjoy working there, which you notice immediately when you’re dealing with Prague’s sometimes… let’s say “variable” service standards. Check-in was smooth, they had legitimate recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t tourist traps, and when I had an issue with the air conditioning, someone was up to fix it in maybe fifteen minutes. The whole place just feels like someone thought through what business travelers and tourists actually need, rather than what looks good in photos.

Reviews

  • Karen from Mexico – 15 June 2024 (10/10)

    Loved the whole stay.
Before this place I had stayed in a hotel and can honestly say that it surpasses a hotel by more than a mile.
I had everything and more than I needed.
The location is very close to the center and the whole building has great security.
The unit I stayed on even had a washer that allowed me to clean like a week's worth of laundry. And a bigger TV and entertainment than a hotel.

What could be improved: There was nothing to not like.

  • Ben from United Kingdom – 23 March 2025 (10/10)

Everything was great as it always is! 🙂

What could be improved: I have stayed here multiple times however just one small criticism this time around. I stayed in room 4.7 which is a room I hadn’t stayed in previously and the wifi was really bad. It was good then it would cut out completely and it kept going off. Hopefully this is just temporary and can be fixed though as the previous times I have stayed there I never had an issue with the wifi at all. 🙂

  • Ákos from Hungary – 17 March 2025 (10/10)

Vers clean and cosy, very comfortable and modern. Absolutely worth the value. Everything was perfect

  • Dorie from United Kingdom – 4 March 2025 (10/10)

The place is in a great central location and close to tourist spots, shops, main rail station, restaurants, etc. I like that it was still central but in a quiet area. It was well-kept, very clean and we got everything we needed during our stay. The bed and sofa were all comfy. We slept very well. We loved the layout of our room and the heating was good. It feels very cosy.

What could be improved: Only one thing that how we wish the check-in machine got an automatic option for English but apart from that everything went smoothly. 🙂

    What could be improved: nothing

  • Eva from Switzerland – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

The location was great, very easy to find and the apartment itself was very nice, modern, very clean, warm and comfortable. It was overall amazing and also peaceful and close to restaurants, bars, coffee shops, museums, tram, metro and historical city centre.

What could be improved: I just find the self check in a lobby over the computer unnecessary, as I did it online and then I basically still had to do it after the arrival.. and I came late and tired and it was frustrating as it didn’t want to scan my passport. Also u would love to have more cups/glasses in the apartment and more shelves in the bathroom.
