Josephine Old Town Square Hotel – Czech Leading Hotels Overview
You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up to the Josephine, tucked right there on Týn street, I expected another cookie-cutter boutique hotel trying too hard to be Prague-fancy. Instead, I found this genuinely charming spot that actually gets what travelers want without all the pretentious nonsense.
The location is honestly ridiculous – and I mean that in the best way. You’re literally steps from Old Town Square (I’m talking a 30-second walk), but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being on Týn street means you’re on the quieter side, away from the main tourist chaos. You can still hear the astronomical clock’s hourly show if you listen for it, but you’re not dealing with the crowds of street performers and tour groups right outside your window. The building itself has that proper Prague character – you know, the kind of place that’s been watching over the cobblestones for centuries but doesn’t make a big show about its history.
What really sold me was how they’ve managed to feel upscale without being stuffy. The rooms are thoughtfully done – not huge by American standards, but honestly, who cares when you’re spending your days wandering around one of Europe’s most beautiful cities? The beds are properly comfortable (and I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which… well, if you’ve stayed in older European hotels, you know that’s not always a given. The staff seems to genuinely know Prague, not just the tourist highlights – I got better restaurant recommendations from the front desk than I did from my guidebook. They pointed me toward this little wine bar on Nerudova that I never would’ve found otherwise.
Here’s something I appreciated: parking is tricky in this part of Prague (honestly, driving in Old Town is sort of a nightmare anyway), but they’ll actually help you figure out your options instead of just shrugging. Most people walk or use the trams – the nearest metro stop is maybe a five-minute walk, and trams run right through the area. During peak season, yeah, you’ll have tourists everywhere, but early mornings and evenings in this neighborhood are genuinely magical. There’s something about the way the light hits those medieval buildings that makes you understand why people have been coming here for decades.
The 9.4 rating isn’t just inflated reviews – this place delivers on the basics really well, then adds those little touches that make you remember why you chose it. I mean, you’re paying for the location and the experience of staying in the heart of historic Prague, but you’re not getting ripped off for the privilege. It’s the kind of place I’d book again without hesitation, and honestly, that’s saying something given how many mediocre hotels are trading on Prague’s beauty without putting in the effort themselves.

Beautiful building with central courtyard. Spacious room, with great bathroom and king size comfortable bed. Great breakfast choice with friendly and helpful staff.
What could be improved: If you are at the rear of the property the bar across the road stays open until 2 / 3 am most nights and the nightclub opposite was open until 5am! There is constant noise from people leaving the venues.Karen from United Kingdom – 29 March 2025 (10/10)

This is THE ONLY place to stay in Prague–it is nestled in a small courtyard, right off of the main center square, very quaint and atmospheric, and just minutes walk from all of the historic sights in the old town. The building is beautiful, our room was gorgeous and luxurious, airy, clean and comfortable, and the reception staff were so helpful and friendly. It was the best experience all around! If we return to Prague, this is the only place we will consider staying.
