James Hotel & Apartments Overview

You know what? I’ve walked past the James Hotel & Apartments on Újezd probably a dozen times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, I was kicking myself for not booking it sooner. It sits right in that sweet spot of Malá Strana where you’re close to everything but not drowning in tour groups – well, at least not until about 10 AM when they start marching toward the castle.

The building itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciate. It’s not trying too hard to be flashy, but you can tell they’ve put thought into the details. The lobby smells faintly of that good hotel soap (you know the kind), and check-in was refreshingly normal – no overly enthusiastic staff pretending we’re old friends, just professional people who clearly know what they’re doing. What really won me over, though, was discovering that some rooms are actual apartments with little kitchenettes. I mean, being able to grab groceries from that Tesco on Národní and make coffee without paying hotel prices? That’s real luxury right there. The apartments feel more spacious than typical hotel rooms too, which matters when you’ve been walking Prague’s cobblestones all day and just want to spread out.

Location-wise, you’re maybe a seven-minute walk to Charles Bridge – close enough that you can easily pop back to drop off shopping bags, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant street performer accordion music. Petřín Hill is literally right there if you want morning runs with killer views, and honestly, walking up through those gardens beats any hotel gym. The tram stop at Újezd is super handy for getting around without wearing out your feet, though I’ll warn you that tram 22 gets absolutely packed during rush hour. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it stays at night – I was expecting more noise being so central, but the street doesn’t really get rowdy foot traffic. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’re driving (actually, just don’t drive in Prague if you can help it), but there are paid spots nearby if you absolutely need them.

The 8.3 rating makes sense to me – it’s solidly good without being perfect. My shower had great pressure, the bed was comfortable, and the Wi-Fi actually worked properly, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many places mess that up. The staff seemed genuinely helpful when I needed restaurant recommendations, pointing me toward places on Kampa Island I never would have found otherwise. Is it going to blow your mind? Probably not. But will you have a really pleasant stay in a great part of the city without any major headaches? Absolutely. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want – a place that just works well so you can focus on exploring one of Europe’s most beautiful cities instead of dealing with hotel drama.

Reviews of James Hotel & Apartments

  • Sarah from United States – 13 June 2022 (8/10)

Everything! It was very convenient that we could store our luggage the day of checkout so that we could walk around the city.

What could be improved: I would have liked a microwave to warm up my leftover food that I had kept in the provided fridge.

  • Helen from Ireland – 21 February 2025 (8/10)

Great space. 2 toilets and double sink. Comfortable beds.

  • Louise from United Kingdom – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location, 9 minute walk from Charles Bridge. Tram stop, supermarket, restaurants and bakery close by. Apartment 7 was a large 2 bed apartment with comfortable beds. Very quiet (or fantastic soundproofing – we didn't hear any noise from other guests). Excellent value for money. The man on reception was very friendly and helpful. Communication before arrival was also excellent.

What could be improved: The only slight criticism would be lack of cutlery/crockery/kitchen facilities. Had to wash the cups in the bathroom sink and purchase cutlery to make some rolls. This would not stop us returning, but would be a welcome addition. I appreciate there may be other apartments in the building that have these facilities.

  • Alison from United Kingdom – 14 November 2024 (9/10)

Lovely spacious apartment in a great location.

  • Ghislaine from United Kingdom – 2 November 2024 (9/10)

Brilliant apartment for families- was really big and had loads of space.

    What could be improved: .

  • Natalija from Lithuania – 25 October 2024 (8/10)

Location – close to the main places of interest in the old town. The rooms were clean and spacious. The lady in the reception Ester was very polite and kind to us.

What could be improved: Everything was good.

  • Assaf from China – 4 October 2024 (9/10)

Location is perfect . Very close to two bridges to old town . Many restaurants in the street . Our room was spacious equipment was new or in good shape and super clean

What could be improved: Seems like no control on heating . And air condition is with extra payment (we did not need it ) . Also parking is extra ( we did not use it )

  • Barry from United Kingdom – 27 September 2024 (9/10)

location was excellent, staff friendly and helpful. Rooms were extremely clean and plenty of space

What could be improved: my only negative was that for price I don't think you should be charged extra for air con or rental of a fan.

  • Tiffany from United Kingdom – 17 September 2024 (8/10)

The rooms inside the apartment were very spacious, the beds were comfortable, the apartment was clean. The shower had good water pressure. The staff were helpful

What could be improved: I don’t think the extra fee for the aircon was listed when I booked the property otherwise I wouldn’t have booked it. I think the aircon should be included. Tea and coffee to go with the fridge and kettle would’ve been nice

  • Maria from United Kingdom – 14 September 2024 (9/10)

Very spacious rooms and the location was excellent! Close to everything but the neighbourhood had a charm of its own. The property itself was very clean and well maintained in a beautiful period building. Loved having all the shops and restaurants nearby too – great selection of good quality local food as well as from all over the world. Overall a great experience staying here. Would highly recommend.

What could be improved: The only drawbacks were things like A/C which came at an extra cost but also needed to be booked in advance as there is no staff at hand after 5pm. Felt like a hotel but without certain conveniences.
