Hotel Description
Honestly, Hotel U Kříže caught me off guard in the best possible way. I mean, when you’re walking down Újezd – which, let’s be real, isn’t exactly the most charming street in Prague at first glance – you might wonder what you’ve gotten yourself into. But then you step inside this converted historic building and it’s like… oh, okay, I get it now.
The thing about this place is that it sits right in that sweet spot between Petřin Hill and the river, which actually puts you closer to the real Prague than a lot of those fancy hotels in Old Town. You can walk to Charles Bridge in maybe ten minutes, but here’s what the guidebooks won’t tell you – you’re also a two-minute stroll from some genuinely good local pubs that tourists never find. The Hunger Wall is literally right there if you want to hike up Petřin (and trust me, you do), plus there’s this little tram stop nearby that makes getting around stupidly easy. I actually found myself using rideshares way less than usual because everything just… worked from here.
The rooms themselves? Look, it’s a solid 3-star, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or anything, but they’ve clearly put thought into the details. The beds are actually comfortable – not just “hotel comfortable” but genuinely restful. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re still in the city. Maybe it’s the way the building sits back from the main drag, or the thick walls (this place has some history to it), but I slept better here than I did at supposedly fancier spots. The staff knows their stuff too – when I asked about getting to Vinohrady for dinner, the guy at reception didn’t just give me directions, he recommended which tram to take and mentioned that the 22 runs more frequently in the evenings. You know what I mean? Those little touches that show someone actually cares about your experience rather than just checking you in and disappearing.
The whole place has this understated, lived-in feeling that I really dig – it’s not trying too hard to impress you with crystal chandeliers or whatever, but everything works and feels thoughtful. The common areas have that Eastern European charm without being kitschy about it. And honestly, for the price point and that 8.2 rating, it makes total sense. You’re getting genuine Prague character without paying tourist-trap prices, plus you’re positioned perfectly to explore both the castle area and the cooler neighborhoods south of the river. If you’re the type who’d rather spend money on amazing Czech beer and proper goulash instead of an overpriced hotel minibar, this is definitely your spot.
The concierge service in Prague can arrange exclusive tours of Prague Castle, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize personalized visits to Charles Bridge and the UNESCO World Heritage historic center.

Reviews
Comfortable and convenient – Jn from United Kingdom – 11 July 2025 (9/10)
A lovely hotel and great value for money, being west of the river, but with all the sights of the old town within easy walking distance, or a short ride from the tram stop right outside the front door. Despite being on a busy road, which had the advantage of a great choice of cafes and restaurants, our 2 room suite looked on to an inner courtyard, with no traffic noise. The rooms were comfortable, clean and air conditioned, with a free mini bar fridge (beer and water) and an en suite with a walk-in wet room shower. Breakfast, included in the price, offered a wide selection. The hotel staff were very accommodating, allowing us to store our luggage after check-out while we continued sightseeing.
What could be improved: Nothing. I loved this hotel.Superb – Brandon from United States – 4 July 2025 (9/10)
The staff were incredibly kind and professional, the room was cozy, and the location was very centrally located.
Excellent value for money hotel on a great location close to city center with good public transport. – Csaba from Hungary – 3 July 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast was decent continental food but nothing extra. A little more variety would be nice from day to day.
There was a welcome drink in the fridge, and they served champagne on the day of our leaving which was a nice surprise.
What could be improved: With open windows the street traffic is quite noisy. (Tram in front of the Hotel, Guests in the restaurants in the ground floor), So we kept the windows mostly closed.Great stay! – Vasilica from Romania – 12 June 2025 (9/10)
The location is perfect to explore the city, around 10 to 20 minutes walk to major sightseeings. In front of the hotel you can climb to the view point. The breakfast very good, big room and clean, staff very helpfull and great. If you need parking there are a lot of blue parking spots(30eur day) and 1 min walk you have a purple parking that is cheaper. Lots of restaurants/bars near the location.
Comfortable, homely, and cheap stay at great location – Gertjan from Netherlands – 25 April 2025 (8/10)
The location of this hotel is great, and the price is good.
I felt very comfortable in this hotel. Staff cared well, and stayed in the background.
It is a nice breakfast they serve, but nothing spectacular. It seems to be mostly local grocery items. Still very convenient.
What could be improved: Not much, it is good to realize the place is a bit older, so there is some wear and tear. But still everything felt clean and the bed was comfortable to me.Convenient and Comfortable. – Mmhaji from India – 15 April 2025 (9/10)
Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast spread was wide. The view from the room was pleasant
What could be improved: Had challenges communicating in EnglishSuperb – Slater from United Kingdom – 12 April 2025 (9/10)
Location is superb just across the road from the monument to the victims of communism and Petrin Park . Easy to get to all the main attractions on foot..
Staff were fantastic and would go out of their way to help.
What could be improved: Only reason I didn't give maximum marks was noise from the restaurant on the ground floor , you could hear chairs scraping along the floor . No loud music but general sounds from the restaurant can affect lighter sleepers.Excellent location to walk into town centre of Prague. Lovely breakfast, comfortable bed, very clean bathroom. Tram runs – Jana from Slovakia – 17 March 2025 (8/10)
