Hotel Tyl

Prague, Czech Republic
Tylovo náměstí 5, Prague, 120 00, Czech Republic

Overview

You know what struck me first about Hotel Tyl? The location is actually pretty clever – it’s tucked away on this quiet square called Tylovo náměstí that most tourists completely miss, but you’re literally a five-minute walk from Wenceslas Square. I mean, you get the best of both worlds here. The building itself has that classic Prague charm without being too stuffy about it, and honestly, the 4-star rating feels about right. It’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it’s definitely a step up from those generic chain places you see everywhere.

The rooms are well… they’re solid. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly (which, let me tell you, isn’t always a given in Prague’s older hotels). The beds are actually comfortable – I was pleasantly surprised by that – and the bathrooms are modern enough without feeling sterile. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Being on that little square means you’re not dealing with the constant tram noise or drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM like you would closer to Old Town. The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing too, which makes check-in smooth and they’re pretty good with recommendations if you ask. One thing though – parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, so if you’re driving, definitely sort that out ahead of time.

Here’s the thing about Hotel Tyl that really won me over: it feels like it belongs in Prague rather than just existing there, if that makes sense. The 7.7 rating is probably fair – it’s not perfect, but it gets the important stuff right. You’re close enough to walk to all the major sights (Charles Bridge is maybe 10 minutes on foot), but you’re also in a neighborhood where actual Czechs live and work. There’s this great little café around the corner that locals hit up for morning coffee, and honestly, that’s worth more than any fancy hotel amenity to me. The whole area comes alive during the day but settles down nicely in the evenings, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to recover from walking around cobblestones all day. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere authentic without sacrificing comfort – and in Prague, that balance is harder to find than you’d think.

The location is perfect for tram/metro/bus connections. It's also walking distance to the National Museum and residential areas of Prague. The room was clean and comfortable although I couldn't open the window in the room. Breakfast was included in the price of the room, but it could have included more variety for people with dietary restrictions like myself. Overall, perfectly fine stay for a night or two.
