Hotel STARÝ PIVOVAR Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel STARÝ PIVOVAR, you immediately get the sense this place has stories to tell. The name literally means “Old Brewery” in Czech, and honestly, that’s exactly what this three-star property feels like — a beautifully converted piece of Prague’s industrial past. It’s tucked away on Plzeňská street, which I actually love because you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in tourist crowds. The building itself has this wonderful weathered charm that makes you want to peek inside.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I really appreciate about staying here — you’re in Prague but not in the absolute chaos of Old Town. The area feels more like where actual Czechs live and work, which gives you a much better sense of the city. There’s parking right at the hotel, which is honestly a godsend if you’re driving (most places in Prague make you hunt for street spots or expensive garages). You can easily hop on public transport to reach the main sights, but I found myself just wandering the neighborhood quite a bit. There are some great local pubs within walking distance that most tourists never find.

The Room Experience

My room had this interesting mix of old brewery character and modern comfort that somehow worked really well together. You know what struck me most? The attention to small details — good lighting for reading, decent storage space, and a bathroom that actually felt spacious. It’s not fancy by any means, but everything you need is there and it’s all well-maintained. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and the windows open properly (which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how many hotels mess this up). Couples seem to really love this place, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about the old industrial bones of the building.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup here is actually quite impressive for a three-star place. They do a proper buffet with both continental options and vegetarian choices, which covers most people’s needs. I mean, it’s not going to blow your mind, but the quality is solid and there’s enough variety to keep you happy for several days. The restaurant area has this cozy, lived-in feeling that makes you want to linger over coffee. What I found interesting is how many repeat guests there are — you’ll notice the same faces at breakfast, and the staff clearly knows their regulars well.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something special about places that people return to again and again, and this hotel definitely has that quality. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a well-run, comfortable place with character and heart. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work, and there’s this relaxed atmosphere that lets you actually unwind. For couples especially, it hits that sweet spot of being romantic without being overly fussy or expensive. You’re getting real Prague character without paying Old Town prices, and honestly, that’s a pretty great deal.

Reviews of Hotel STARÝ PIVOVAR

  • Very good – Urša from Slovenia – 19 July 2025 (8/10)

It was close to tram station, only 2 min walk and with tram only 15 mim to center. Breakfasts were really good.

  • Good hotel for a short stay, good location – Anja from Slovenia – 8 May 2025 (7/10)

The hotel rooms are older, the furniture is quite worn out, but we knew what to expect for that price. The location is excellent, a good starting point for visiting the city, as there is a tram station a few minutes walk from the hotel. The employees are also extremely friendly and helpful, ready to help. It was also a good thing that we could buy tram tickets at the hotel.

What could be improved: Paid parking (9€/day). Parking could be included in the room price. Breakfast could also be more varied.

  • Very good – Lucie from Canada – 9 April 2025 (8/10)

It is nice clean accommodation. It just a bit noisy with cars driving by and airplane flying above.

  • The hotel is perfect for a short overnight stay; it has got all the basics and is very accessible. – Michael from United Kingdom – 2 February 2025 (8/10)

Great choice of breakfast, very spacious, warm and quiet rooms.

What could be improved: Unfortunately there was no kettle in the room and our water pressure was quite low.

  • Confortable hotel outside the city – Massimo from Germany – 2 October 2023 (8/10)

The hotel have spacious and confortable room, very confy bed, free parking and breakfast was top.

What could be improved: The hotel sign and also the website talk about a restaurant inside the structure, actually is not a restaurant but a place where they served beers and some freezing food as cicken fried and cheese fried coming from Lidl supermarket, a really pity because the place is nice and can be managed better (with a chef maybe) preparing real czech food.

  • Very good – Robyn from Canada – 9 July 2023 (8/10)

Great breakfast. The area was very pleasant to sit and enjoy the many choices offered for breakfast. Big pillows and comfortable beds were a great after a long day of travelling.

What could be improved: Unfortunately our room was quite warm, so it wasn't easy to get to sleep. This, plus having to share the bathroom, was disappointing. I thought I had booked an air-conditioned spot; probably my mistake.

  • Very good – Ruslan from Sweden – 7 May 2023 (8/10)

    Good breakfast, polite receptionist.

What could be improved: Poor soundproofing.

  • Fair value. – Keith from United Kingdom – 3 January 2023 (6/10)

Fair value for the price. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff were pleasant.

What could be improved: Breakfast was adequate.
Wi-Fi didn’t work at all in the rooms.

  • Totally worth it! – Jessica from Germany – 22 August 2022 (8/10)

The shared room was quite nice, the bed was fresh and very confortable. The toilet and showers were not bad but not exceptional. The breakfast was just great, varied and tasty! I totally recommend it.

What could be improved: The only thing that I didn't like, besides the location (which is not a problem at all, the tram stop is very close) is the noise at the morning, around 6:30 and on coming from the kitchen which is aside.

  • Hotel Start Pivivar – Brian from United Kingdom – 27 July 2022 (6/10)

    Lovely staff

What could be improved: Limited facilities..e.g no kettle , limited toiletries, menu not catering for allergies, not much on the menu to be called a restaurant.
