You know what’s funny about Hotel Roma Prague? The name had me expecting some sort of Italian theme, but honestly, this place is Czech through and through – and that’s exactly what makes it work so well. It sits right on Újezd street in Lesser Town, which means you’re literally a five-minute walk from the base of Petřin Hill (locals just call it Petřin). I mean, you can see that quirky mini-Eiffel Tower from some of the upper floor windows, and the whole area has this quiet, residential vibe that most tourists completely miss.

The building itself feels substantial – you know, that solid European construction where the walls are actually thick and you don’t hear your neighbors through paper-thin drywall. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward, no overly chatty front desk person trying to upsell me on spa packages or whatever. The rooms are what I’d call “properly sized” for European standards, which means they’re not massive but everything has its place and nothing feels cramped. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in Prague, honestly), and the bathrooms have that modern renovation feel without trying too hard to be trendy. What really got me was the attention to small stuff – like, the curtains actually block out light, the WiFi works throughout the building, and there’s enough outlets that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and using the hairdryer.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you: Újezd is one of those streets where actual Praguers live and work. There’s a fantastic little bakery about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM (perfect for early risers), and the tram stop is close enough to be convenient but far enough that you’re not dealing with constant street noise. You can walk to the castle in about fifteen minutes if you take the hill route, or catch tram 12 or 20 and be in the Old Town in maybe ten minutes. The area gets busy during the day with people heading up to Petřin, but evenings are genuinely peaceful – I could actually sleep with the windows cracked open, which never happens when I stay near Wenceslas Square. Staff seemed to know their stuff too; when I asked about getting to the airport early morning, the front desk person immediately knew the first metro connection times and suggested the most reliable route. It’s that kind of local knowledge that makes a difference when you’re trying to catch a 7 AM flight and don’t want to stress about timing. The whole place just feels… competent, I guess? Like they’ve figured out how to run a proper hotel without all the fuss.
