Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel Residence Spalena, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Prague’s bustling city center. This four-star property sits right on Spalena Street, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — you’re literally steps from Wenceslas Square and the main shopping district. The building itself has that classic Central European charm, but what really struck me was how quiet it felt inside despite being surrounded by all the action. I mean, Prague can get pretty hectic during peak tourist season, but somehow this place maintains a calm, refined atmosphere that makes you want to just exhale and settle in.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying here — you’re in the absolute heart of Prague’s New Town, which means everything is walkable. The famous astronomical clock is maybe a ten-minute stroll, and you can reach Prague Castle in about twenty minutes on foot (though honestly, I’d recommend taking the tram up that hill). What’s really convenient is having the Mustek metro station so close by — it connects two major lines, so getting anywhere in the city is straightforward. The street itself is lined with cafes and shops, but it’s not one of those touristy strips where everything feels overpriced and artificial.

Room Experience

The rooms at Hotel Residence Spalena feel more like upscale apartments than typical hotel accommodations, which makes sense given the “residence” part of the name. Mine had a small kitchenette — nothing fancy, but perfect for making morning coffee or storing snacks from the local markets. The decor strikes a nice balance between modern comfort and subtle nods to Prague’s architectural heritage. You know what impressed me most? The soundproofing actually works, which is crucial when you’re this centrally located. The bathrooms are well-appointed without being flashy, and the beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses, so that’s saying something).

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have a lovely rhythm — there’s a breakfast area that serves a solid continental spread, though I found myself venturing out to the nearby bakeries more often than not. The staff is genuinely helpful without being overly formal, and they seem to actually know Prague well enough to give useful recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots. The lobby area works well for planning your day or just catching up on emails, and there’s reliable WiFi throughout. I appreciated having a 24-hour front desk, especially since Prague’s nightlife can keep you out later than planned.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both central and peaceful — that’s a rare combination in any major European city. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the intimate scale and the romantic neighborhood (those cobblestone streets don’t hurt), but it works equally well for solo travelers or friends exploring together. The value proposition is solid too — you’re getting an upscale experience in an unbeatable location without paying the premium you’d face at some of the more famous hotel brands. After staying here, I understood why recent guests rate the location so highly — it’s not just about being central, it’s about being in the right part of central Prague.

The concierge service in Prague can arrange exclusive tours of Prague Castle, secure reservations at traditional beer halls, and organize personalized visits to Charles Bridge and the UNESCO World Heritage historic center.

I would say this is the best hotel in Prague. The room is clean and exceptionally comfortable. Major attractions are within walking distance, and it is convenient to take trams to the Old Town, Prague Castle, and the train station. There are many great local restaurants around the hotel. The staff is friendly and very helpful, making the stay even more enjoyable.

What could be improved: It takes some effort to figure out how to use the TV.
