Hotel Residence Select Overview

You know what surprised me about Hotel Residence Select? It’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be something it’s not – and honestly, that’s refreshing in Prague where so many hotels are either tourist traps or pretending to be luxury when they’re clearly not. This three-star spot on Sokolska sits in Vinohrady, which I mean, if you’re not familiar with Prague’s neighborhoods, it’s basically where actual Czechs live and work rather than just the tourist circus of Old Town.

The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Central European vibe – you walk in and immediately get the sense that this place has been here a while and knows what it’s doing. The lobby’s clean and functional without being sterile, and check-in was surprisingly smooth (I’ve had some real nightmares at Prague hotels where nobody speaks English and everything takes forever). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night – Sokolska’s a proper street but not one of those main arteries where trams are clanging by at 5 AM. The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid three-star, but everything actually works. Hot water, decent Wi-Fi, windows that open properly. Sometimes that’s all you need, you know?

Here’s the thing that makes this place work though – the location is actually brilliant if you want to experience Prague like someone who lives there rather than just hitting the castle and Charles Bridge. You’re a quick tram ride to the center (the Namesti Miru metro station is close enough), but you’re also walking distance to some genuinely good local spots. There’s this little Vietnamese place around the corner that locals queue up for, and honestly, the coffee shops in this area blow away anything you’ll find in the tourist zones. Plus – and this matters if you’re traveling in summer – Riegrovy sady park is practically next door, which is where half of Prague goes to drink beer on the grass when the weather’s decent. The hotel staff seemed to get this too; they’re not pushing expensive tourist tours but actually give useful suggestions about where to eat and what to see. I’d say it’s perfect for people who want a comfortable base without paying Old Town prices, and who don’t mind walking a bit or figuring out the tram system. Not luxurious, but genuinely solid – which in Prague, where you can easily overpay for mediocre, is worth quite a lot.
