Hotel Praga 1885 by Wagnerstays Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel Praga 1885 by Wagnerstays, you immediately notice the building’s character — there’s something about these older Prague structures that just feels right. The name gives away its history, and honestly, you can sense that 19th-century charm the moment you step inside. It’s not trying too hard to be modern, which I actually appreciate in a city where so many places have lost their soul to renovation. The hotel maintains its original architectural details while providing contemporary comfort for discerning travelers.

The Neighborhood

The location on Plzeňská puts you in a sweet spot that most tourists miss — you’re close enough to Prague‘s main attractions without being stuck in the chaos of Old Town. Couples consistently rate this area 8.2 out of 10, and after spending time here, it’s easy to understand why. You’ve got authentic Czech pubs within walking distance, and the tram connections are actually reliable, which matters when you’re hauling luggage around. The street itself has that lived-in feel where locals go about their daily business, but you’re still just a quick ride from the castle or Charles Bridge. This neighborhood offers genuine local atmosphere combined with excellent accessibility to cultural landmarks.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of old-world details and modern necessities. The windows are these tall, generous things that let in so much light during the day, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The furnishings feel thoughtfully chosen rather than just ordered from a hotel catalog, and there’s enough space to actually unpack without feeling cramped. As a four-star property, it delivers on comfort without any unnecessary frills that would just jack up the price. Each room reflects careful attention to both aesthetics and functionality.

Morning Routine

The breakfast situation is straightforward — a buffet setup that covers all the basics plus some local touches. The coffee is strong, there are fresh pastries, and you’ll find some Czech specialties mixed in with the international standards. What I liked most was the timing — it never felt rushed or crowded, even when the hotel was busy. You can actually sit, plan your day, and ease into the morning properly without feeling pressured to hurry through.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing about this place — it just works without making a big deal about itself. The staff knows Prague well enough to give you real recommendations, not just the tourist traps. The building has character but doesn’t sacrifice practicality, and that location rating of 8.2 isn’t just numbers — it reflects how easy it makes exploring the city. You’re paying for a solid, reliable base in Prague that feels authentic rather than manufactured for tourists. This hotel represents the kind of thoughtful hospitality that transforms a visit into a genuine experience.

Reviews of Hotel Praga 1885 by Wagnerstays

  • Superb – Nurlan from Azerbaijan – 26 July 2025 (9/10)

Friendly staff, good location and facilities for comfortable stay. Good price for what it offers.

What could be improved: Sometimes electricity went off during late night hours.

  • Satisfied! – Zheng-cat from Sweden – 12 July 2025 (9/10)

Staff are patient and they are very kind to reply your questions before arrival. Quite easy to reach the city center by tram, and for road trip people, it may be better for you to find out some purple parking zone around the hotel instead of using the parking house, but check the Prague parking app in advance.

    What could be improved: –

  • Charming, Comfy, and Surprisingly Warm – David from United Kingdom – 30 June 2025 (7/10)

The room was spacious, spotless, and the bed was excellent – great sleep after exploring! The nearest tram stop is located about 200 yards away from the hotel

What could be improved: My room was at the front of the hotel on a very busy main road with trams, pro tip bring ear plugs! Note there is no air conditioning or any fans in the room. Prague gets very hot in the summer

  • Good location – Éva from Hungary – 26 June 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: The room with the balcony was a bit noisy.

  • Superb – Kirils from Latvia – 23 June 2025 (9/10)

Very friendly staff, good location, nice interior

  • Very good – Lenka from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (8/10)

All was good apart from the mini bar/fridge in the room.

What could be improved: The mini bar/fridge in the room. Pointless. Works only when the room card is inserted in the socket which connects room electricity with the main electricity. Reception told us the fridge will work properly after being active for 24 hours. However, you need to take the card with you when leaving the room otherwise you have no how to get back to the room. Had to be buying ice from shop to be able to have cold drink after roaming the city in hot days.

  • Comfortable, quiet place to stay, close to Andel metro station – Heij from Slovakia – 15 June 2025 (9/10)

Very clean rooms, it was quiet both times I stayed. Very comfortable bed – unlike in many hotels, it wasn't too soft. Good quality bedding. I liked the decor, it's as shown in photos. Helpful and professional reception staff, available non-stop. I haven't had breakfast or used the gym, so no opinion on that.

What could be improved: Some rooms have rather small shower pods.

  • Very good – Sattar from Germany – 25 May 2025 (8/10)

The location was perfect — just a short walk from the tram station, which made it really easy to get around the city. The room was a nice surprise: it was very big, clean and well looked after. Everything felt fresh and tidy.

What could be improved: The only downside was that the room didn’t have air conditioning. We had to open the window to cool down, but it was quite noisy outside, which made it hard to fall asleep at times.

  • Very good – Eda from Turkey – 23 May 2025 (9/10)

We stayed at the hotel for three nights and its location was great. There is a tram in front of it and the stop is very close. There is a shopping mall within walking distance where you can meet all your needs. It is very easy to reach Prague Central Station or historical places from the hotel. I liked the color harmony and the items in those places, there is a refrigerator and a kettle. The room was a bit small but it was not a problem for us. The staff was very good but I want to give a special thanks to Inkar. She gave us very nice detailed information about places we can easily go to, visit or eat in Prague and answered our questions about everything. Thank you

  • Very good – Olha from Czech Republic – 6 May 2025 (8/10)

Very pleasant staff, clean room, good location

What could be improved: Noise from the road, quite stiff pillows
