Hotel Description
Hotel Praga 1885 by Wagnerstays sits on Plzeňská street in Prague’s Smíchov district, and honestly? It’s one of those places that surprised me in the best way. The building itself has this beautiful 19th-century facade that actually lives up to that 1885 in the name – you can tell they’ve put real effort into preserving the historical character while making it work for modern travelers.
What I love about this spot is how it feels genuinely Prague without being touristy. Smíchov isn’t where most first-time visitors end up, which means you’re getting a slice of how locals actually live. There’s this great little bakery just down the street where I grabbed coffee every morning (way better than hotel coffee, let’s be honest), and the whole neighborhood has this lived-in energy that’s hard to find in Old Town these days. The metro connection at Anděl is maybe a seven-minute walk – I timed it because I’m that kind of person – so getting into the city center is actually pretty seamless. You’ll catch the B line and be at Wenceslas Square in about ten minutes.
The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. Mine had these lovely high ceilings and original wooden floors that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in a historic building, but not enough to keep you awake. The bathroom was modern and spacious – honestly a relief after some of the shoebox situations I’ve encountered in European hotels. I mean, the whole place has this 7.8 rating for a reason, though I’d probably bump it up a bit based on my stay. Check-in was smooth, and the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood well enough to give real recommendations (not just the obvious tourist traps). One thing worth noting – if you’re traveling in summer, the rooms can get warm since it’s an older building, but they do provide fans and the windows actually open, which is more than you can say for a lot of places. The street can get a bit busy during morning rush hour, but it settles down pretty quickly, and honestly, that’s just Prague being Prague. For the price point and the experience, especially if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere with actual character rather than just another generic hotel, this place really delivers.

Superb – Nurlan from Azerbaijan – 26 July 2025 (9/10)
Friendly staff, good location and facilities for comfortable stay. Good price for what it offers.
What could be improved: Sometimes electricity went off during late night hours.Satisfied! – Zheng-cat from Sweden – 12 July 2025 (9/10)
Staff are patient and they are very kind to reply your questions before arrival. Quite easy to reach the city center by tram, and for road trip people, it may be better for you to find out some purple parking zone around the hotel instead of using the parking house, but check the Prague parking app in advance.
What could be improved: –Charming, Comfy, and Surprisingly Warm – David from United Kingdom – 30 June 2025 (7/10)
The room was spacious, spotless, and the bed was excellent – great sleep after exploring! The nearest tram stop is located about 200 yards away from the hotel
What could be improved: My room was at the front of the hotel on a very busy main road with trams, pro tip bring ear plugs! Note there is no air conditioning or any fans in the room. Prague gets very hot in the summerGood location – Éva from Hungary – 26 June 2025 (8/10)
What could be improved: The room with the balcony was a bit noisy.
Superb – Kirils from Latvia – 23 June 2025 (9/10)
Very friendly staff, good location, nice interior
Very good – Lenka from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (8/10)
All was good apart from the mini bar/fridge in the room.
What could be improved: The mini bar/fridge in the room. Pointless. Works only when the room card is inserted in the socket which connects room electricity with the main electricity. Reception told us the fridge will work properly after being active for 24 hours. However, you need to take the card with you when leaving the room otherwise you have no how to get back to the room. Had to be buying ice from shop to be able to have cold drink after roaming the city in hot days.Comfortable, quiet place to stay, close to Andel metro station – Heij from Slovakia – 15 June 2025 (9/10)
Very clean rooms, it was quiet both times I stayed. Very comfortable bed – unlike in many hotels, it wasn't too soft. Good quality bedding. I liked the decor, it's as shown in photos. Helpful and professional reception staff, available non-stop. I haven't had breakfast or used the gym, so no opinion on that.
What could be improved: Some rooms have rather small shower pods.Very good – Sattar from Germany – 25 May 2025 (8/10)
The location was perfect — just a short walk from the tram station, which made it really easy to get around the city. The room was a nice surprise: it was very big, clean and well looked after. Everything felt fresh and tidy.
What could be improved: The only downside was that the room didn’t have air conditioning. We had to open the window to cool down, but it was quite noisy outside, which made it hard to fall asleep at times.Very good – Eda from Turkey – 23 May 2025 (9/10)
We stayed at the hotel for three nights and its location was great. There is a tram in front of it and the stop is very close. There is a shopping mall within walking distance where you can meet all your needs. It is very easy to reach Prague Central Station or historical places from the hotel. I liked the color harmony and the items in those places, there is a refrigerator and a kettle. The room was a bit small but it was not a problem for us. The staff was very good but I want to give a special thanks to Inkar. She gave us very nice detailed information about places we can easily go to, visit or eat in Prague and answered our questions about everything. Thank you
Very good – Olha from Czech Republic – 6 May 2025 (8/10)
Very pleasant staff, clean room, good location
What could be improved: Noise from the road, quite stiff pillows
