Hotel Pod Věží Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Pod Věží? The name literally means “Under the Tower” and they’re not kidding around – you’re basically sleeping in the shadow of Prague Castle’s towers. I mean, when you step out onto Mostecka Street, you’re already halfway up the hill to the castle grounds. Most tourists are huffing and puffing their way up from the river, but you’re just casually strolling like you belong there.

The thing is, this stretch of Mostecka is actually part of the original Royal Route – yeah, the same path kings used to take to their coronations. Pretty wild when you think about it. The hotel itself sits in this gorgeous baroque building that’s been totally renovated (thank god, because some of these old places can be charming but freezing). What I love is how they kept all the period details – the vaulted ceilings, original stone work – but actually made it comfortable. The rooms aren’t huge, which honestly is fine because you’re not coming to Prague to hang out in your hotel room anyway. But they’re thoughtfully designed, and the beds are legitimately good. I’ve stayed in enough European hotels with mattresses that feel like cardboard, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Here’s the real insider thing though – you’re positioned perfectly between the castle district and Lesser Town, but you’re just off the main tourist crush. Nerudova Street (where all the tour groups march up) is parallel to you, so you get the prime location without the constant foot traffic noise. Early morning is magical here because you can walk to the castle gates before the crowds arrive, then duck back down to that little café on Kampa Island for coffee. The hotel staff actually knows this stuff too – they’re not just pointing people toward the obvious spots. When I asked about dinner, they sent me to this tiny place on Kampa that I never would’ve found otherwise.

Parking is going to be your biggest headache if you’re driving (honestly, just don’t), but the tram connections are solid. The 22 tram stops right at the bottom of the hill at Malostranské náměstí, and from there you can get pretty much anywhere in the city. Check-in was smooth – none of that weird European thing where they act like you’re bothering them by existing. The whole operation feels more boutique than chain, which makes sense given that 9.6 rating. I mean, you don’t hit those numbers by accident. It’s the kind of place where they remember you’re vegetarian at breakfast without you having to remind them three times.

This hotel was fantastic. The staff were exceptional and the little extras really made a difference. Thank you Hotel Pod Vezi!

What could be improved: Couldn't find a kettle in the room but there was a coffee machine. We probably could have asked for one but were too tired!

  • Alison from United Kingdom – 26 March 2025 (10/10)

The hotel is in an excellent location, the staff were very friendly and super helpful with local information. We stayed in the main hotel, the room was large, comfortable and very clean, the bed was quite hard it didn’t bother us but may if you prefer a soft mattress. Mini bar was always kept stocked and little complimentary gifts left which was lovely. We had breakfast included which was good and plentiful. We also ate in the restaurant one evening and the food was excellent as well as the service.

What could be improved: Nothing to dislike!

It was perfect for us. The front desk people were friendly and professional. Our room was on the second floor (3rd for US people) of the adjacent building. Our room was spacious, very clean, comfortable beds and natural sunlight from the two windows. It overlooked a courtyard, which was very quiet in spite of being so close to a busy, touristy street. It was right by one of the towers at one end of the Charles bridge. The breakfast was in a beautifully decorated room in the main building. Breakfast was buffet style, but they served you the coffee or tea at your table. The breakfast had a variety of the traditional breakfast buffet items, plus many super delicious gourmet items as well, like smoothies, salmon spread, caprese salad, a place to squeezed your own juice, Prosecco, apple strudel and other excellent pastry, homemade jams. It was all very good. The menu for lunch and dinner looked delicious.
The person at the reception recommended a couple of restaurants for us to eat, which were delicious. Every night the left a chocolste on our nightstands, and every day they left a special treat for us: a box of chocolates, a magnet, the last night it was a small bottle of sparkling white wine. Great stay

What could be improved: We liked everything.

  • Soffa from United States – 13 March 2025 (10/10)

The graciousness/ helpfulness of your friendly staff. Breakfasts were excellent and many good choices were available. Hotel was just steps away from the Charles Bridge.

What could be improved: There was nothing to dislike
