Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Otakar? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street that feels completely removed from the tourist chaos, even though you’re actually just a stone’s throw from the city center. I mean, Otakarova is one of those Prague streets where locals actually live and work – there’s a little bakery around the corner that opens at 6 AM and the smell of fresh bread sort of drifts down the block. The hotel itself sits in what looks like a converted early 20th century building, and honestly, they’ve done a decent job keeping some of the original character while making it functional for travelers.
The thing about this place is that it’s refreshingly straightforward – no pretense, no trying to be something it’s not. The lobby’s small but welcoming, with this old wooden reception desk that actually looks like it belongs there. Check-in was smooth when I arrived (around 3 PM on a Tuesday), and the staff spoke solid English, which isn’t always a given at three-star spots in residential areas. The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect for a 7.6 rating. Clean, comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, though the shower pressure varies depending on what floor you’re on – I was on the third floor and it was perfectly fine. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, which I’ve learned not to take for granted in older Prague buildings where the walls are thick as fortresses.
What I really appreciated was the neighborhood vibe. You’re about a 15-minute walk to Wenceslas Square, but it’s one of those pleasant walks where you pass through actual Prague neighborhoods instead of just tourist corridors. There’s a tram stop maybe three minutes away that connects you to the Old Town, and if you’re the type who likes to walk, the route takes you past some gorgeous Art Nouveau buildings that most visitors never see. Evenings are quiet here – no stumbling groups of bachelor parties or street performers until 2 AM. The only real downside is parking; there’s no hotel lot, so you’re looking at street parking or a paid garage about two blocks away. But honestly, if you’re planning to explore Prague properly, you won’t need a car anyway. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Prague rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.

Good value for money. Rooms were big and spacious. Extremely clean and loved the under floor heating.
Tram right outside took you into the city centre. We preferred the quiet area, rather than the hustle and bustle.
